On Sunday the Kites took a 23 strong squad including 5 debutants to Marlow for a Pre-Season friendly on a scorching hot day. Chinnor had a slow start at kick off with Marlow flying out of the blocks and scoring twice, their number nine taking advantage of breaks in the defensive line.
However 15 minutes in the Kites began to find their rhythm, and with penalties won and a yellow card for Marlow, momentum began to build. Hard carries from the Forwards culminated in a try for Prop Aisling and a conversion from Captain Nicolle. Chinnor commenced on to dominate the set piece with scrums and lineouts providing a platform for tries scored by the Backs, with one a-piece for debutants Kirsty and Lucia. Marlow battled on, staying in the game with a third try.
After half-time the Kites began to dominate with Lucia and Kirsty both scoring a second try. Replacements provided Chinnor with some extra energy and went on to turn over two scrums, with Backs’ Kirsty, Lucia and Lynne scoring a further three tries. Charlotte, and debutant Juliet on the Wing both made strong runs, testing Marlow’s defence. Fran Ronan then scored a worldie, kicking a knock-on from Marlow all the way to the try line and showing off her football skills. The tries kept coming, with home-grown Ruby Finken scoring on the outside on her Debut. In the last few minutes of the game
Chinnor picked up a yellow and Marlow took the advantage to score one last try, finishing the game 20-44. Overall a great Friendly, the Kites really found their rhythm and left with some constructive points to build on ahead of their first NC 1 League match on the 17th of September.
