Chinnor play their best rugby of the season against strong opposition

With the opposition topped up with loan players, Chinnor received the kick off and immediately set about taking the fight to Chesham. Time spent practicing rucking had paid off and Chinnor were able to recycle the ball with more confidence than of late. Chesham tackled well and occasionally snaffled the ball back, reminding Chinnor that any inattention or sloppy play would be penalised.

Chinnor scored three tries, with one converted, in the first half. All came from a combination of forwards and back play, with the ball initially being worked forward, before being passed out to the wings. There was great interplay between players, with the ball kept alive when seemingly lost as well as good communication and decision making within the team. 0-17 going into the break.

The second half was a tougher affair. Now with stronger loan players and Chinnor being slightly less consistent, Chesham were able to bulldoze their way through to score three tries over fifteen minutes. With only ten minutes to play, Chinnor, who had never stopped playing, rediscovered top gear and it was all one way. Chinnor were probing, getting stopped, occasionally losing the ball, then winning it back, then going again - and all in Chesham's half! With only three minutes to go, their effort paid off and scored try #4. Then came a resurgent Chesham who offloaded beautifully from contact to level the score. 22-22 at the final whistle.

It was undoubtedly Chinnor's most assured performance with a well rounded team effort. The stronger players still stood out for their skill, but everyone stepped up to make their tackles, run the ball into contact and secure the ball in the ruck. It would be hard to pick a backs player of the match as there was nothing between them. In the forwards, there were sterling performances from several players. However, the testament to all the forwards was that the ball was confidently secured for the scrum half to distribute. The players may have been disappointed not to win, but they did themselves and the club proud.

The team has one final fixture this season whilst on tour... Go Chinnor!
