Redingensians were BBO Colts Champions last season and losing finalists in the National Cup competition - a great achievement for them and therefore a challenge for our team. Someone forgot to tell our team how good the opposition were last season, for within 5 minutes Chinnor had crossed the line with a classic scrum to backs move, only to have it disallowed for a marginal forward final pass. Reding responded and the first penalty goal attempt was Redings but they missed. Chinnor made no such mistake a few minutes later to take a 3 point lead. Strong lineout play, often stealing opposition ball, gave Chinnor the forward momentum and a try followed much improved rucking by the forwards. Chinnor's tackling was strong and Chinnor had the best of territory for the whole first half adding another penalty goal and a converted try before half time to lead 18 - 0. The half time talk helped Reding - they came back strongly and made Chinnor pay for a string of offences with 3 points. In the second half the territory stats changed as Reding pressed and a period of uncharacteristically loose tackling almost let Reding in on 3 separate occassions but some great last line tackles meant Chinnor held firm. With approx. 10 minutes to go, Chinnor took the scrum option for a penalty 5 metres out and put the scrum half over in a manner that that would have made Matt Dawson proud ! The conversion took the score to 25 - 3 but Reding refused to lay down and with seconds to go, turned concerted pressure into 7 points to finish at 25 - 10. After two strong Cup performances by the Colts, it bodes well for the season
