The match kicked off on a beautiful sunny afternoon but within one minute, indiscipline at the Chinnor ruck led to a Longlevens penalty and the subsequent kick gave Longlevens a 3 point lead, not the start Chinnor wanted. The re-start led to a scrum which then saw a Longlevens forward going to hospital (precautionary) with a neck injury and thereafter all Scrums were uncontested, but happily not the rucks and mauls ! Whilst Chinnor forwards continued to infinge frequently and an adverse penalty count quickly mounted, Longlevens could not take advantage and some good driving, mauling and rucking saw Chinnor forwards dominate the first half play, resulting in clean ball for the backs who needed no further encouragement. By half time, the score had climbed to a Chinnor 28-3 lead. The second half saw the Longlevens forwards get a better grip but Chinnor still had the edge in forward play, especially with the pick & go and once the ball went out to the backs, a try always looked likely. Keen to demonstrate their prowess, we saw some good examples from the Chinnor backs of how to run on to the ball at speed and points resulted. The final score of 53 -3 proved satisfying to the players and they looked forward to the next round and another Gloucester team
