Chinnor went behind early on. After a series of attacks on the Aylesbury line by Chinnor, Aylesbury cleared with a long kick and were then able to recover the ball close to the Chinnor line, and then over for the try. 5 – 0.
This galvanised Chinnor who hit back shortly afterwards. Pressure from Chinnor resulted in a line out in the Aylesbury 22. Chinnor worked the line out well and fired the ball out to the backs. The ball went through the hands, and some good running and footwork saw Chris B released to score in the corner. He successfully kicked the difficult conversion. 5 – 7.
From the kick-off Chinnor defended well. Exchanges of free kicks eventually saw Aylesbury make ground in Chinnor’s 22. Despite some desperate defending, Aylesbury slipped a tackle and scored. The conversion was successful. 12 – 7.
A period of prolonged Chinnor pressure in Aylesbury’s 22 saw Chinnor score again. This time the try came from a great turn-over that saw the ball shipped wide rapidly for Chris B to make his way over to score in the corner. The difficult conversion attempt was just wide. 12 – 12.
From the kick-off Chinnor spilt the ball, and Aylesbury made good with the opportunity to put on pressure. A series of rucks on Chinnor 5m line, despite another frantic defence, saw Aylesbury eventually squeeze over for a try that was converted. 19 – 12.
The equalising score came after some good Chinnor pressure resulted in a penalty 10m out from the Aylesbury line. A quick tap penalty saw the ball spun out wide and Dylan T powered over to score his first. Converted. 19 – 19 going in to half time.
The second half opened with strong running and good defence from both sides. A cross-field kick from Chinnor put Aylesbury under huge pressure, but they cleared well. Chinnor fielded the clearance kick with a great pick-up, and a quick pass put a strong running Dylan T away to score his second. Ben S kicked the conversion. 19 – 26.
At the kick-off, Aylesbury made good ground and had a series of rucks in Chinnor 22. Increasingly desperate defence from Chinnor kept the Aylesbury ball carriers on the gain line, but a chip through saw Aylesbury score under the posts. 26 – 26.
Going into the final quarter with the scores level, the pressure ratcheted up on both sides. Chinnor started to get some continuity going. After prolonged pressure by Chinnor, some strong running lines from backs and forwards saw the ball just held up over the Aylesbury line. From the resulting scrum free-kick Chinnor moved the ball into space and Dylan T drove over for his third try of the night. Ben S again added teh extras. 26 – 33.
Chinnor fielded the kick-off well, and again with good continuity made progress into Aylesbury half. Continued pressure and a line-out on the Aylesbury 22 saw a Chinnor strike move hit the Aylesbury defence hard. More pressure mounted through a series of Chinnor rucks, and resulted in penalty to Chinnor 5m out from Aylesbury try line. Taken quickly, Dan M on at scrum half darted through to score under the posts. 26 – 40.
The dying moments of the match saw the visitors on the back foot as as Aylesbury launched a series of attacks. Desperate defence by Chinnor ultimately resulted in a yellow card after a series of penalties within the 22. With the Chinnor defence fully stretched, Aylesbury found a gap and scored with the last play of the game. Final score: Aylesbury 33 – 40 Chinnor.
