It all started with a kick... and they were off. Good tackles from Adam M, Ben G and Harry B stopped a determined Old Albanians side. The opposition are big, but the Chinnor defence force a knock-on but. Possesion is traded and the visitors are strong at the scrum. Despite this Chinnor hold their own and clear their lines courtesy of a good clearance kick from Joe H.
Chinnor then win a scrum and a series of excellent off loads and runs see the home side secure a penalty ten metres out. Chinnor line out then the ball is lost, regained and another penalty in Chinnor's favour. Not converted into a score yet. But then Chinnor spin the ball through hands looping past the winger and into the hands of Tom W who steamed down the wing to score. Converted. 7-0.
Old Albanians respond, capitalising on small errors and they score. 7-5. Chinnor respond with a great try from Ben M. Drop kick against the wind for extras by Joe H. 14-5.
Then three good scores by Chinnor applying good pressure to the visitors. First a kick through, gathered by Tom F. Not converted 19-5. Then Joe C went over the whitewash and the conversion was good. 26-5. Finally Tom W gets his second, but no extras. 31-5.
Old Albanians were down but not out and came back with a good score with only minutes before the final whistle. 31-10. They then put Chinnor under pressure who managed to defend in their 22 until time was up.
Starting lineup Louis A, Harry B, Adam M, Ed M, Rich B, Ollie J, Archie D, Ben G, Dan M, Joe H, Alfie C, Joe C, Tom W, Eddie C & Will F. 2nd half props replaced with Harry R and Shaun B. In second row, Magnus P and Sam G came on as did Ben M, George L and Tom F in the back row. In the backs Jude H came on at #14 for Will F, though he was soon back on to cover an ankle injury.
A huge thank you to Old Albanians who made the journey to Chinnor with little notice when their pitch became unavailable. A good display of rugby from both teams, with home players stepping in to cover (for injuries) for the visitors. A match played in good spirit.
