On a sunny day in Sunbury the Colts took on London Irish on their amazing 3g pitch. With players away on County training and a few injuries it is great for the coaches to know that the strength in depth we have this season is second to none.
We started brightly with Preston and Biss making great line breaks and carrying ball with purpose. Caldicott spun the ball away from the breakdown and with 15m to go Fleming bulldozed his way through bouncing off would be tacklers before going over under the posts. Jonchuu converted. 7-0. The game ebbed and flowed for a while before some slack defence let Irish in for a try which was not converted. 7-5. Chinnor now decided it was time to up the game with Mcdondald racing away and scoring under the posts, Jonchuu converting 14-5. The next try came from a good break from Hanley and good support from Brad who duly went over and Gillett converting. 21-5. With their tails up the next score was soon to come with Captain of the day Dan Pearce bulldozing his way from the halfway line handing off 4 players before going over conversion missed. 26-5.
Gillett then burst through the centres to score under the posts which Clayton duly converted to make the score 33-5. Prosser was next on the sheet with a great try which had been coming all afternoon, converted by Jonchuu score now was 40-5. Pearce then was again in on the action scoring under the posts, converted by Clayton 47-5. The next score was a sight to see with hooker Whitfield breaking away before a great inside pass to his support in Clayton who went under the posts, Caldicott converting 54-5. The last try came from a good break from Brad who then let the ball go through 3 pairs of hands before Gillett finished it off in the corner to make the score 59-5.
A great venue to play at that is hosting Wale's training next week before their game with England and a great opportunity for the boys to play on a 3g pitch. Thanks to Irish for hosting us and we look forward to seeing them later in the season.
