Colts march on in the National Cup

Rob Hill3 Feb 2016 - 23:24

Hard fought win in the mud.

National u18's Cup

Dursley RFC 0 Chinnor RFC 12

With the focus on the cups Chinnor were welcomed to Gloucestershire with a pitch that was very boggy and a very determined Dursley side. The game started with both teams testing each other out mainly in the forwards as the ball didnt get past the 10 much to the backs annoyance. With the game not for the purists Chinnor got on the score sheet with a try off a lineout that would you believe was driven on two pahses before Scotty Hall drove over for the first try with Charlie Nicholls converting to make it 0-7. This is how it stayed to halftime although both teams did try and attack but good defence on both sides prevent any more points.

The 2nd half started with much of the same with both teams trying to keep out of the boggy parts of the pitch to keep the ball alive. Dursley for their efforts kept the pressure up on Chinnor with wave after wave of attack, but with training in the last couple of weeks being worked on our defensive patterns the Chinnor lads held firm. Finally after a long penalty kick to the corner Chinnor kept the ball tight and drove the ball on for Captain James Cook to be at the bottom of the pack with the ball over the line. 0-12 with the conversion missed.

All in all a good win away but Chinnor hard to dig deep as we were unable to play our normal free flowing game that the lads and parents alike are used to.

Chinnor now move on to face either Havant or Guildfordians at home on the 21st Feb k/o TBA.

A big thank you to Durlsey for hosting us and giving us a hrad fought game, i know Julian Millo will be looking to arrange a fixture against them next season. Hopefully the weather will be better and we can see more free flowing rugby from both teams.
