Chinnor Colts 22 Kilkenny College 10
On an sunny November afternoon with Tom Alexander captaining, Chinnor welcomed Kilkenny College from Ireland on their tour of England and Wales. The game started well with both teams trying to put the pressure on early. This worked to Chinnors advantage forcing a turnover which Daniel Pearce offlaoded under pressure to Tom Dobson who set Andrew Prosser free to score in the corner. Sam Nicholls making his Colts debut from the u16's calmly slotted the conversion to make it 7-0 to Chinnor. The score didnt remain like that for long with Chinnor losing ball in contact and Kilkenny scoring out wide to make the score 7-5. Sustained pressure from Chinnor saw Sam Coldicott go over from close range with the conversion missed to make the score 12-5. With words said at half time Chinnor came out more focused but a lapse at the lineout saw Kilkenny maul or 20m before touching down making it 12-10 the conversion being missed. Sam Nicholls then pulled back the posint with a well taken penalty to make it 15-10. Oscar Clayton then broke through after some good back play to score under the posts for a easy conversion for Sam Nicholls to finish off the scoring 22-10.
With again county taking 6 players and players unavailable through injury and this was a great game to see as only 3 of the 22 were u18's this is a great thing for Chinnor RFC as a whole to see the younger colts perfoming. As ever there are things to work on but overall we are going in the right direction.
A big thank you to Sam Nicholls, Tom Aslett and Sam Merideth for stepping up and playing for us from the u16's great perfomances from these lads and food for thought with the u17's national cup after Christmas in which we were South West Champions last season.
Thanks to Kilkenny for choosing us for their game, they have already offered us to chacne to tour to Ireland ???? Also a big thank you to David Hanlon for refereeing the game.
