Chinnor Colts have made it through to the national Colts Cup Semi Finals and now face Champions Bedford. In what proved to be an enthralling match, Chinnor Colts put in a great display of controlled and skilful rugby against strong opponents, Doncaster Knights. The Doncaster team had a clear weight advantage in the Pack but despite early pressure, failed to turn that pressure into points. Chinnor's defence was quickly in it's stride and although lighter, the pack applied their weight more effectively. After 11 minutes and close to the Doncaster 10 metre line, the ball popped up from the scrum on the blind side. George Blewitt tore through the Doncaster defence and scored in the right corner to give Chinnor a 5 - 0 lead. The momentum had swung to Chiinor and successive sorties by Doncaster were snuffed out before they reached the 22. The intense midfield battle raged until the 24th minute when Doncaster infringed in front of the posts and then gave an extra 10 metres for backchat. Will Millett needed no further encouragement and slotted the 3 points. Doncaster brought on reinforcements for the pack and the slight advantage Chinnor had created in the scrum disapperared. Nevertheless, a number of moves made Chinnor the more likely to score but the final pass failed and just before half time Doncaster squandered the chance of 3 easy points by scrummaging from the penalty. Half time and 8 -0. The second half saw Doncaster press frequently through their forwards and despite solid defence, Doncaster crossed the line at 48 minutes to take 5 points. The set scrums were taking their toll but Chiinor forwards held their own in the ruck and maul and furher assaults on the Doncaster goal line again fell with the final pass. Tension ramped up at 60 minutes when Doncaster used their weight advantage to skilfully maul across the line again and take the lead at 8-10. The final 10 minutes saw an intense battle between two evenly matched sides seemingly settled at 68 minuutes when Doncaster infringed 15 metres out and in front of the right post. George Grose slotted the 3 points for 11 - 10. The final, determined assault from the restart saw the final play of the game and Doncaster regained the ball at a ruck just outside the 22. A side step and rare missed tackle, saw the Doncaster centre clear through from 10 metres out, only to stumble, fall and spill the ball forward. The ref blew for full time and Chinnor breathed again. A great contest.
