Chinnor Bs started well with Eddie and Joe shipping the ball out for Will F to show his turn of pace early in the game. The forwards were working well with Adam tackling hard, along with Sam and Shaun. Chris and Ed at #4 and #5 tackled and helped prevent Reeds from breaking through. The opposition forwards were good and kept on coming, so there was little respite. A well worked run from scrum half to Gus, back to Eddie, then out to Will nearly secured Chinnor their second try. It was to come when a clearance kick was caught and passed to Alex B who ran 60 yards for the points. Reeds responded with two tries of their own, before Chinnor scored their third of the half. Tom played well, but was frustrated with his kicking which was not as accurate as usual. Half time score: 12-17
The second half was more difficult as players tired - especially those who had played in the As match. Rich played well constantly at the breakdowns and there was limited progress by both teams trying to punch through their respective packs. With ten minutes to go Chinnor were one try ahead and looking generally under control. Reeds #10 then expertly kicked through for their strong winger to gather the ball for a well deserved try. This appeared to rattle the Chinnor side who let another try through within a couple of minutes. When play had to move to the adjoining pitch for a Reeds injury (and we wish their player well), Chinnor thought they could recover the situation, but instead Reeds read the game well and their starting #15 made a strong run to score. Full time: 34-22.
Some exciting play with players looking for space and running great lines. A big thank you to Shaun, Harry, Max, Gus, Dan, Ben S, Dylan, Chris, Louis, Alex and Nathan who all put in shifts for the second match of the day! Reeds were strong competition and good hosts.
