Chinnor vs Buckingham U14s

31st March 2019 Buckingham U14’s vs Chinnor – Final score 25 – 14 to Chinnor

Over past years, the games between these clubs at this age group have been so close that daylight was barely visible between them, with Buckingham always narrowly coming out on top.

Two very evenly match squads were split into two teams (Chinnor blacks and whites) allowing the head coaches from each age group to try out some new team line ups prior to their respective county cup final matches next weekend e.g. Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire U14 finals.

The Chinnor “White” team captained by Tom Bridges came out of the blocks like Usain Bolt, fired up. Moving the ball well, running some great dummy lines and switching inside and outside, almost like they had been coached! Buckingham dug deep and held on against all the pressure and one lapse in concentration (and a few missed tackles) and Buckingham popped up to score and convert, against the run of play.

Chinnor kept up the attacking pressure from the restart and Freddie S created some space and went on a “one-man band” run (copyright Eileen) showing strength pace and a deft chip that he collected to cross the white wash.

Chinnor pressed hard trying to shut down the skilful Buckingham Fly Half and centres. James Harper doing what he does well, overturned possession and got the ball out to Charlie S who had been causing havoc on the wing and got his rewards by crossing the line. 7 – 10 at Half time.

About 5 changes were made at half time, which from past experience can upset the structure, but on this occasion, it was the opposite. Within the first 12 minutes of the second half Chinnor scored 3 more tries, a great step and go from Ed Bailey, a real snipping scrum half finish from Tom B and a great reward for Will C having directed traffic and work hard all game.

A truly magical performance across all the players in the “White” team this morning. A real joy to watch and very nice to come away with a win against Buckingham after such an early start (and long drive) on a Sunday morning when the clocks have gone forward. Fixtures secretary!!!!! (But at least there was time for Sunday lunch with well deserving mums on Mother’s Day)

Try Scorers: Freddie S, Charlie S, Will C, Ed B and Tom B
