Autumn Test

Chinnor Under 14s played 2 matches against Beaconsfield on a fine and sunny autumn
morning. The visitors arrived looking big, physical and well drilled. They fielded an A team in
the first fixture and the game was an excellent see saw battle where no quarter was asked
for nor given. Chinnor took the lead early on when a barnstorming run from number 8 Tom
Clifford from 40 metres out saw him take several defenders over the line. Tom continued in
the vein throughout the match with his running and tackling.
Beaconsfield struck back immediately through the powerful back division. Chinnor knew
they were in for a tough match but this really seemed to lift the team and the intensity of
defence rose a notch or two with some superb tackling around the fringes from all and
Matty Ng in particular. This aggressive defence led to a spilt ball by the Beaconsfield
midfield and a long, lung busting kick and chase from Freddie S who in a valiant dive for an
attempted try injured his shoulder and had to be replaced.
Some lapses in concentration and discipline by the home team were exploited by the quick
thinking opposition scrum half and his quick tap penalties cost Chinnor dear as he scored 2
well taken tries.
However, Chinnor continued with their determined mood. Harry Wilson was having a super
game at full back where his dangerous stepping was reminiscent of a young Shane Williams.
He left many a defender bamboozled on their backsides as he launched several storming
counter attacks. One such move was rounded of by a typical Nathan burst as he out paced
the defence to score under the posts. Tom B converted to 12-20.

The second game was a much more one sided affair. Beaconsfield simply had no answer to
the power, pace and precision of Chinnor’s attack. Jake Millar scored a superlative hat trick
scoring two from long range, beating many defenders en route to the try line. His other try
was more of a team effort when several phases of play was rounded off by good quick
hands in the backs, a lovely angle from Wilf who unselfishly put Jake over in the corner.
At the heart of this stunning display was a rampaging performance from Captain Morgan
Billings. He was denied a try in the first minute after releasing Jake on the first of his many
memorable runs, he took a return pass 80 metres up the pitch and was clear when the
game was stopped for a head injury. Morgan got his try from the ensuing scrum with a
powerful pick and run from Number 8.
Not to be out done Tom Roberts then came to the party with a barnstorming break down
the touchline, which was accompanied by a roar of appreciation from the large home
crowd.
More tries followed in fairly regular intervals with the whole team contributing to the
impressive performance. Morgan notched his second and Wilf crashed over in the corner
after a nice break from Joseph V. Tom Roberts put a huge tackle on the enormous
opposition 13, showing that there was nothing Beaconsfield could now do to stop the
juggernaught.

Jake added his hat trick try directly from the kick off after a lovely offload from Morgan, he
again showed immense pace to outflank the defence and score under the posts. Nathan
scored a trademark try and led a kick chase deep into the opposition territory. Chinnor
showed their excellent fitness and desire with more numbers at the ensuing breakdown
which led to Joseph V dummying and running in the final try . Guy Blackwell converted.
An excellent performance all round from both teams and everyone contributing to two high
class displays. Some work to do on discipline and support running but the boys are showing
potential and improvement.
