Gale force performance by a maturing young side on the new 4G away in Oxford

There was nothing fake or artificial about this match. Tough conditions for all sides and playing against the wind in the first half saw the U13's concede very early on to a bolstered Quins side from a few weeks previous. Some fine decision making, timing and no lack of brute strength bought Chinnor back level and then ahead. The boys displaying the tackle and jackal that had the coaches purring.
Pre-match concerns about wasteful kicking were dismissed as the Chinnor boys kept the ball in hand and ran determined into the storm and ended the first quarter a couple of tries to the good. The support play and contesting for possession to gain turnovers was negating the gale force conditions.

With a healthy squad of 21 players, changes happened every 15 minutes to keep some continuity but to provide fair game time to all. Wild passes were rare and infrequent which was pleasing, and even with the wind the team played with control and thought with some nice switches and great running lines. The forwards worked hard to counter ruck and frustrate Quins, however, they did break the line with some nice passing and a barnstorming run by one of their forwards.

Chinnor scored some long range tries to excite the huddled away supporters and ran in seven in total to Quins three. All the boys enjoyed the experience of the Artificial pitch and would've learnt a lot about playing in such testing conditions. Some feisty moments re-enforced to the boys that they are stronger together and it's more about the team than the individuals. Good progress boys. Thank you to our hosts.

On to the Beaconsfield next Sunday for the U13's festival.
