This fixture was in stark contrast to the 20 degrees and sun cream of the previous week. Wind, rain and cold conditions were, however, no match for an improving age group.
We welcomed Chipping Norton to Kingsey Road for a friendly between two clubs from either side of Oxfordshire. The Showground Arena, with its newly cut and marked lines courtesy of the famous Friday Club, hosted a match that included 39 players and 3x20 minute games.
Chinnor began well and demonstrated an appetite for strong running and better support, something that paid dividends throughout the match. There was a contrast of styles, Chippy preferring to pick and go, versus the more expansive fast attacking running rugby from Chinnor resulting in scoring 11 tries throughout and conceded just one. Back to back impressive performances from a squad that are maturing bit by bit and enjoying their rugby. They’re not bad to watch either.
As the final whistle was blown, the rain abated and the wind dropped. No surprises there.
Hotdogs were then consumed in the clubhouse.
