Chinnor match report - Sunday 01 November 2015
It was a warm sunny morning as two (maybe slightly worse for wear after a few sleeps-less Halloween wake-overs) teams arrived away at Buckingham R.F.C for a great morning of games.
We all got changed and went out to get ready. After a good warm-up our blue team headed onto the pitch. It was a slow start for us and their rucking and mauling was too strong and after a particularly good turn-over they scored a great try. This was followed by a well kicked conversion. So 7-0. After a couple more minutes Buckingham scored another try. This time they missed the conversion. This gave them a 12-0 lead. We re-grouped and after some good phases we managed to execute a nice run and passing move to score a try. Unfortunately, we missed the conversion but at least we were on the board.12-5. In the closing minutes of the first half they made a break and score their 3rd try. No conversion. 17-5.
During Half time we spoke about needing to be quicker to the breakdown and up as a line faster in defence.
Second half we came out with a hill to climb. We managed after a big shove to turn over an opposition scrum and with a wonderful 1-2 between the backs we scored a great try followed by an equally good conversion. With 7 more points on the board it was 17-12 with around 20 minutes left. They came back hard and sadly after some good defensive efforts and hard scrums they got another try with no conversion scored. Then we started to really up the intensity and a after some tough phases we went over the white wash with try 3. After a good conversion we were three points down and trying our best. The 3 point lead couldn’t be caught and the game ended 22-19 to a well-deserved Buckingham side. They had played a great game and that gave them the win but we will live to fight another day as the mighty Chinnor always do.
