Chinnor IV 34 High Wycombe III 5

After two frustrating games in the New Year, Chinnor IV’s got it back together as they
hosted High Wycombe this week.
Special mention should go to the 7 strong bench, not all of whom got on the pitch.

As the game started it was soon apparent that the forwards had their structure back, with the
youngsters holding their own in the backs.
Strategically placed as ever, mostly on the left wing, Terry “And June” Chappell was
poised with his quick tap penalty to hand.

With Rob “Andrew” Atkin injured, and Rob “Dawn” French watching football, the number
10 position was vacant. Selecting the candidate on ability and degree of blondeness, it was
“Mucky” who filled those boots, with his blonde locks flowing in the wind.

Chinnor soon got on the score sheet as the ball was fed to Gareth “Left” Hook in open play.
“Left” then went left then right to cut a neat line through the Wycombe defence to touch
down, “Mucky” added the conversion.

Facing the wind, Wycombe were forced to kick to clear their lines. Ever ready to clear up,
Pete “Shakespeare” McDermott, collected the loose ball dodged one attacker then ran right
to feed Rowan “Spam” Foster on the wing. “Spam” almost got clear but was just caught by
two tenacious Wycombe defenders.

Minutes later a scrum on the Wycombe 10m saw Gordon “Voldemort” Fennel pick from 8,
feed “Mucky”, who with an overlap beckoning passed out to Gavin “Hyphenated”
WadeWilliams on the left wing. “Hyphenated” juggled then secured the ball to touch down
in the corner, 12-0.

The visitors were not sitting down, and tested Chinnor’s defence with some strong running
in the backs. Each time the attack was held, “Critter” Williams particularly firm.
Mixing it up, the Wycombe 15 launched a high ball. Collecting, “Mucky” replied in kind.
The ball was knocked back where Josh “Don’t go into the” Woodeson picked up and
angled right to add another 5 points. 19-0.

Half time drew nigh and allowed some fine tuning in the lineout. Mike “Thunderclap”
Neuman was on for his usual solid play in the loose, as was Dan “That’s all” Vokes filling
the shoes of IV team legend, Mike “Sippy” Hughes in the lineout.

Perhaps guilty of rushing things, Chinnor eased the pace back a little to play their game.
Securing possession the home side worked their way inside the Wycombe half. Another
pickup by “Voldemort” saw the Captain draw his man then pop left to “Don’t go into the”
Woodeson. The number 9 jinked one way then back inside through the gap to touch down
under the posts.

Wycombe came back and worked their way into Chinnor’s 22. Awarded a scrum the
visitors lay on a wave of attacks with Chinnor repelling each one. Another scrum on the 5m
enabled the Wycombe 8 to pick and go blind. Having been held up before this time he
made no mistake and got his side on the score sheet.

This momentary lapse was soon forgotten and Chinnor fought back. A penalty saw the ball
reach touch 15m out from the Wycombe line. The machine like efficiency of Mike “Harry
Potter” Bambrook with Richard “Jabba the” Hutt in the lineout saw the ball collected, and
the rolling maul that is the Chinnor stealth weapon form up.
With John “Tin” Cann in close support the weapon surged on, until at the line Barney
“Bob” Hoskins was bundled over to score.

The minutes ticked down until the final whistle blew. 34-5 the final score was a good result
for a more structured Chinnor side.
Gordon “Voldemort” Fennell marshalled his troops admirably. Special appearances by Rob
“Roy” McLachlan taking everbody by surprise with an unforgettable performance. Along
side still injured, Andy “Not related” Heley who inspired his team mates as ever.

The IV’s travel to the porridge fields of Winslow this week in a re-arranged league fixture.
