Oxford Harlequins (12) Chinnor IV (26)

The last few weeks have been a big adventure for Chinnor IV’s. A friendly against local allies Princes Risborough, playing way up on a misty high Mountain, way up above the
dusty dirty town, saw both sides matched with 10 apiece.

An away game at Perinporth saw the side walking along the beach in a force ten gale, where they found several hippies saving a whale. Injuries abound both before the game on
the dance floor, and during the game. While last week, saw a blanket stitching from Witney.

This week the IV’s finally got back to their winning ways in a not so friendly local derby with local rivals Oxford Harlequins.
Captain for the day, and Chinnor’s oldest player was Mike “Sippy” Hughes, who led the visitors to victory, with tries from Richard “The” King, and the Williams sisters, “Critter” and “Gavla”.

The first score came after a fine linking move between the pack and the getting even better looking as they get older, backs. The final move saw “The” King touch down in dubious
circumstances, but awarded the try on the replay, much to the surprise of the other 29 players. New face, Sam “He’s just a” Angel added the conversion, 0-7.

‘Quins did not lie down, and using some unique interpretations of play at the breakdown, worked their way into Chinnors 22. Breaking blind their no. 9 touched down in the corner, 5-7.

The next restart saw “The” King catch “He’s just a” Angel’s restart, link nicely again then touch down in the corner. 5-12.
Chinnor then pinned ‘Quins back at every opportunity. With play in their own half the home side found it difficult to break out. Unfortunately some over zealous passing from Chinnor allowed a break to materialise, and from this the scores were levelled.

With the pressure mounting, Chinnor were then reduced to 14 players after Georgina “Louise” White found himself resting for 10 minutes after a fine display of petulance, which the referee took exception to.
Despite this it was the visitors who went ahead. A scrum inside the ‘Quins half saw “He’s just a” Angel draw a defender, throw a long pass to “Critter” Williams who then put on the gas and slid nicely over the line, 12-19.

Half time saw some changes, with Mark “Little” Cox off with a broken toenail, Chinnor welcomed Pete “No name” from ‘Quins into their side to make up the 15.

Although leading, the score was not safe and the home side threatened on several occasions. Working their way up yet again, Chinnor kicked a penalty into touch just inside
the 22. The finest play of the game then ensued. An inch perfect throw by “Louise” was collected by the cool headed Sam “Son” Blewitt, secured by John “Tin” Cann, and “Boots”
then span out by Benny “Saville” Rowe to “He’s just a” Angel.
“He’s just a” then passed back inside to “Gavla” Williams on the angle from his wing to slice through and score under the posts. 12-26.

An important game for Chinnor ahead of next week. Orchestrated from the sideline by “Voldemort” and Adam “Ski” Woodliffe with special help from Sam “Get down” Honour.
The IV’s are back in league action next week, as they host Chipping Norton on the 4th , to which they invite all their supporters.
