Big win away at Leighton Buzzard

Chinnor's reformed 4th XV (affectionately dubbed The Outlaws) met up at Leighton Buzzard for the 2nd instalment of their resurrection this season. It was touch and go as to whether or not we would have a team midweek due to many from the previous match unavailable, however, a 17 man squad turned up in good spirits despite bitter and windy conditions.

With the opposition choosing to play downwind in the first half, it was clear that Buzzard wanted to pin us down and play off our mistakes and beat us before the half time oranges. It did no got to plan and The Outlaws started with a bang with a try in the first 5 mins thanks to good hands and the Bee line running of flanker - cum - centre Max Williams exploiting an overlap and scoring under the posts. Skipper and kicker Guy Woodeson horrendously misjudged the conditions as kick in front of the posts sale right at the last second leaving as 0 - 5 early on. Although Leighton Buzzard had the edge in the scrums, their defence struggled with our well drilled pack and direct running from our backs, 3 of which were forwards and we made them pay with our drilled play with another try, this time from hooker - cum - winger Dean Collins 12 - 0. Leighton Buzzard then made the most of The Outlaws defence falling asleep to make it 12 - 5 at the break. We had done what we had intended to do which was to take the advantage of the wind out the question and lead at half time so that come 2nd half we had the weather with us along with our back line cutting them to shreds.

The kicking of fly - half Will Jones and Guy Woodeson throughout along with our open style of play sicken the spirit out of Leighton Buzzard and further tried from debutant Openside Henry (who has mysteriously failed to give me his surname) and two from Dean Collins to complete his hat - trick put the game out of reach from the home side. The second half ended in comical fashion. With Chinnor camped on their line for much of the end of the game, the referee had warned Chinnor that a 3rd penalty would result in a yellow card for the resilient Outlaws. Who would be given the yellow card would have sent every Ladbrooks into frenzy. As Leighton Buzzard tried to take a quick tap 5 metres out, who should fly out the line to prevent a try but none other than Ashley Dearlove! As the referee played advantage, Buzzards attack ventured over to the far touchline where Ashley, in an attempt to make yet another try saving tackle, clashed heads with his own player, with two men down with head injuries the ref called time off, sauntered over to Dearlove, bleeding freely from his forehead, and brandished the yellow card. Dazed and confused more than usual Ashley was dragged apologetically off the pitch along with fullback Max who had come off better with split eyebrow, also bleeding freely. Down to 14 men, Leighton Buzzard managed a consultation try and the game ended 33 - 12. Our first win and a phenomenal all round performance from The Outlaws.
