Chinnor 4th team welcomed Farnham Royal 2s to Kingsey Road for their first fixture of the year. After a great response to the fixture Chinnor had a match day squad of 24 players including 4 colts making their senior debut.
The game started brightly with both teams moving the ball well but it was Farnham that took the lead with a well worked try. Chinnor rallied and after a period of sustained pressure the ball was worked out to the right wing where Matt Bassett dotted down to level the scores at 5-5.
The game continued at a high pace with Chinnor having to work hard in defence but they were unable to hold out until half time and Farnham broke through once more. At the half time whistle an injury to a Farnham player meant the game was move onto the next pitch, all at Chinnor wish him a speedy recovery and thanks to all that helped to deal with the unfortunate situation.
As the second half commenced Chinnor made a raft of changes to ensure all player got good game time, the changes seem to add impetus as from a line out slick hands gave captain Guy Woodeson a chance to show his pace, cutting through the line to score under the posts. Chinnor lead 12-10!
Chinnor scored again through Will Jones but were unable to hang on and Farnham struck back, the score now level 17-17. Chinnor earned a penalty with time running out no option of the line out, the kicking tee was called for ......... unfortunately this time no fairy tale ending.
It was a great day and a big thanks to all that turned out and especially those from Chinnor you help the opposition. A great base to start rebuilding the team from and we look forward to our next game planned for the 21st of November.
