White double seals victory

Having hosted Redingensians in November, in which Chinnor had a comfortable 44-19 victory, Chinnor IIIs visited the newly refurbished Reading paddock, where Readingensians would be hoping to exact revenge.

The team was looking strong, and the warm up went well. Chinnor's captain however was not present, due to him travelling back from a romantic retreat in Cornwall and he was unsure whether he would make kick off or not. His brother Tom White stepped up to the challenge, and captained the side when the whistle blew, as there was still no sign of George.

Chinnor did not start well, they conceded an early sloppy try, which was swiftly converted by their Jonny Wilkinson styled kicker. This was when George White decided to turn up on the sideline and the team knew that things had to change a bit sharpish.

The response from the forwards was great, they worked hard to gain some decent ground and ended up with a scrum on their 22. The move was called, and it saw John Down break the line with only the fullback to beat. Jayson Abbott was running his supporting line, it was a simple but well executed pass that saw him score a try under the sticks. This was converted by the returning Josh Woodeson, who has been out injured for over a year and whose return was hotly anticipated.

Some decent defence was then needed for Chinnor to hold back another effort of a try by the self titled 'Dragons Teeth'. They were rewarded with an opportunity to run in a simple try if only Rob Nichols could of passed a good ball to John Down – change lost.
A short while later after some strong attack by the Redingensians 3rd team they scored their 2nd try which again, was converted by their kicker.
Half time saw Chinnor behind, although they had played some good rugby. Chinnor made some changes whch saw the return of George White who was now itching to make an impact, along with Pete Way. They replaced Adam Draper and Nick Henderson. Coupled with these changes there were some stern words regarding the scrums tightening up, and the defensive back line to make sure of every hit.
The substitutions paid off as Pete Way made an instant impact with a try saving tackle and George White helped the pack turn over some of the scrums and for once threw 100% delighful lineouts.

The Whole Chinnor team dug in and the hard work paid off. Chinnor received a penalty midfield, which was kicked into touch putting Chinnor in the red zone. The resulting lineout saw Mark Bradburn collect the ball, which was secured by Tom White. The entire Chinnor pack worked in unison to drive over the try line for Tom White to score. Guy Hackshaw struck the conversion, but unfortunately it came bouncing off the uprights.
At the restart Tom white undid all his hardwork by dropping the ball to give Reading a penalty directly infront of the posts. It was swiftly converted by Jonny Wilkinson Jnr. It was at this point that Jeff Cole and George Hope left the pitch after strong performances, replaced by Guy Woodeson and Matt Barker.

At this point in the game Chinnor were in full control and were playing all of their rugby in Redingensians half, but were muted by some decent defence or poor passing by Guy Hackshaw. Currently 5 points adrift Chinnor needed a converted try to take victory. It was another well worked lineout with a powerful drive by all 8 of the Chinnor Pack that saw Tom White then grab his second of the game, pushing him higher up the try scorers list and making up for his earlier mistake. The resulting kick was tough, but was brilliantly converted by Guy Woodeson to put the 'Wildboys' into the lead.

With the full time whistle looming, Jayson Abbott smashed his opposite number, but this was deemed by the Referee as a shoulder charge and was he given a yellow card. Shortly after the whistle finally blew, making the final score 17-19 in Chinnor’s favour.
