Another good team performance

This weekend saw Chinnor III host Her Majesty’s neighbours, the Windsor Development XV.

The guests at Kingsey Road were a force to be reckoned with last season and when they turned up fully kitted out, complete with two coaches, a physio and a massage bench, the Chinnor boys knew they had to be on top form.

As the game started it was clear that Chinnor players were fired up and the dominance of the Chinnor pack quickly showed through as they marched the scrummage over the try line for a simple touch down for Nicholas Harrison. Windsor however were quick to respond, their fullback got hold of the ball and with a strong mazing run, coupled with a series of missed tackles, saw him touch down to level the game at 5 a piece.

This try caused Chinnor to reawaken and were quickly back in the oppositions half, this time a well worked line-out that was powerfully driven over by the Chinnor pack, gave Nicholas Harrison his second try of the game.

Windsor’s response was impeccable again; they were soon pressuring Chinnor in their own half and caused Chinnor to try play rugby on their own try line. A sloppy pass from Sam Angell was intercepted by the Windsor centre who touched down to level the match once again. This was then converted to put Windsor in the lead for the first time.

A discussion between the Chinnor players whilst standing under their posts, showed a moment of realisation. If they wanted to win this fixture, they would have to be more clinical and switch on in defence as well as attack.

The conversation seemed to work as it saw a good piece of play from the Chinnor backs to put them back into the visitor’s territory. The following play resulted in Tom White crashing the ball over the try line; however he managed to injure himself in the process and had to be replaced by Mark Bradburn.

This change saw quick returns; a mesmerising powerful run by the fresh legged Bradburn saw him score a superb individual try, which was in turn converted by Sam Angell. This gave Chinnor a very comfortable score line as the half time whistle blew.

The second half saw more of the dominance from Chinnor, powerful running lines from the backs and solid play from the forwards saw Max Williams get over the try line, swiftly followed by a try from Sam Angell. These were both converted by the reliable boot of Angell.
Windsor did not give up in their pursuit of the game, they pinned Chinnor back on their try line, and after several phases of play saw their centre touch down over the line. However shortly after the restart, a mazing run by Jeff Cole saw him eventually caught and in the process was the victim of a spectacular dump tackle from the try scorer. The offending player was shown a red card for the offence and gave Chinnor the opportunity to extend their lead further.

They quickly did as the resulting penalty saw Max Williams claim his second try of the game. The best and final try of the game came shortly after, some brilliant phases from the forwards, led to some great play from the backs and a fantastic team try touched down by Ryan Collins.

There were a number of particularly good performances, Will Taylor and Mark Bradburn stood out, however Man of the Match went to the impressive Jayson Abbott.

It was another solid performance from Chinnor 3’s and showed that there are more good things to come.
