On this day in history 1947 bank robber Willie Sutton escaped from jail in Philadelphia. 72 years later the Wildboys were facing Witney and looking to steal the must win game.
The Wildboys were missing a few key players like Harry ‘Toto’ Hillier and Daniel ‘the kid’ Coulon, nonetheless the Wildboys had a fierce looking side out, with the addition of Sam ‘the Sundance kid’ Angell and Tots ‘baby face’ Rackstraw coming back in to the fold.
At high noon the bell rang and the Wildboys had their fingers on the trigger ready for an epic duel. The boys were clearly up for this encounter and soon they were hammering at the door of Witneys try line. A few solid phases from the muscle men up front then quick ball out to the backs saw Guy ‘Bonnie’ Hackshaw over the line converted by Angell.
The Wildboys kept their feet in the stirrups and trotted on still firing their 6 guns. Sam ‘the Sundance kid” Angell was controlling the game well and soon he powered over the line himself followed by another conversion. The Wildboys were in fine form at seemed to be only just getting into their stride. Another break saw Tommy ‘the gun’ White over the line shortly followed by Harry ‘the bull’ Franklin. Both of which the Sundance kid missed the kicks, he must have had a snake in his boot.
The Wildboys then had a moment where they must have been distracted by the lovely damsels that flock to the bad boys. In this moment they let Witney hit back and get over the line where they also slotted the kick.
This obviously angered the Wildboys who hit back hard and fast. Soon two tries were run in by Tom ‘Wonderboy' Strathdee followed by one from the old prospector Mark Bradburn.
At half time the Wildboys were holding Witney to ransom with a score that stood at 41-7.
The second half carried on much the same and the Wildboys just kept on firing. Another score from the Sundance kid and the Wonderboy. The duel seemed to be over.
Wanted posters were put to print for this weeks mare of the match who was Chris ‘Mr Niceguy’ Jeffcock for butchering a couple of try scoring opportunities. Votes for man of the match went to Sam ‘the Sundance Kid’ Angell and Tom Strathdee, but this week the accolade was awarded to Tommy ‘the Gun’ White.
The next chapter of this tale will show Henley bringing a strong posse to try and capture the Wildboys and collect the reward. Will they be able to? Come back next time to find out. until then keep it wild…
You know you love me.
