Some good rutting leads to a Wild victory

On the 26th of January 2019 a rugby match was to take place. But not just any ordinary rugby match. This match was to be played by the infamous Chinnor Wildboys vs the Bracknell Stags. Both teams having won the BBO1 in recent years and both teams wanting the win over the other. The previous fixture saw the sides come up even-stevens with only the Wildboys grabbing a try bonus point, so this fixture at Bracknell was a very anticipated affair.
Having been told that the game needed to be played in a local park the Wildboys made their way over to clear the dog shit, syringes, and anything else that the locals dump in their playing fields. The kick off was to be the Wildboys and up it went to be collected by Bracknell. Met by George Hope the game had begun. Nerves seem to get the better of the Wildboys in the early stages, with Guy Hackshaw and Max Wood dropping a few catches, however the worst was to come. The Wildboys found themselves on their own tryline, with Rob Nichols waiting to clear. The pass from Dan Coulon came back, fumbled by the Fat Controller, and saw Bracknell dive over for the first points of the day.
At that point, some stern words were said, and the Wildboys had to put their nerves to bed, and fight for this game. Some much better play by Chinnor saw them dominate in the scrum and at the breakdown and with a very quick back line, the Bomb Show spotted some space. The ball went through the hands out to Guy Hackshaw who still had some work to do. He battled himself over the line, and managed to get the ball down with one hand for a well deserved try. Expertly slotted by Mr Hillier the Wildboys were now in the lead.
This was exactly what the squad needed, and from that point everyone settled into the game. It was a fierce few minutes, with hard hits and strong lines from every player and this hard work paid off when Maxxy Williams powered over for the Wildboys’s 2nd try. The conversion again was nailed by Bomber setting the score at 5-14. Only 3 mins later, the Wildboys were back in The Stags half and the Wonder Boy found the ball in his hands. An almost Draper esque try was to follow. Strathdee skirting around, inside, outside and over the try line for a great individual try. This time the conversion was missed and the score line stood at 5-19.
Just before halftime a few handbags were thrown, and the referee reminded both sides that he didn’t want to ruin a good game of rugby. Cosher came on at halftime for Wreck it Ralph which kept the front 8 as strong as ever. The Wildboys kept working hard, and were rewarded with a try around the flanks. Wonder boy offloaded to cantering Rob Nichols who still had just enough pace to touch down for 5 points. The Wildboys were back to their old tricks where they didn’t like to score conversions so the score stood at 5-24.
Bracknell still eager to get their say in the game we’re awarded with a penalty in range of the posts. Their 10 stepped up and slotted 3 points to close the gap. However this was short lived as the Wildboys were back down in The Stags half and a great set piece move sent the Weasel Max Wood through and over for a great try. Again conversion missed leaving the score at 8-29. The Wildboys were now putting the game to bed and captain Thud Butt bought his finishers on to complete a great performance. Harry Lowe and Chris Jeffcock came on for Guy Hackshaw and Martin Bradbury.
Before long, Mr Lowe found himself in some space, offloaded to Max Wood who slid over for his 2nd. Naturally the extra 2 points were missed. George ‘Handsome’ Hope was next, and he finished was an exceptional display by the Chinnor Wildboys.
The last conversion was put wide, so the score stood at an impressive 8-39. There were 2 man of the matches this week with Jason Abbott and Dan Coulon scoring highly within the boys. The obvious choice for Mare was awarded to Mr Nichols who was to blame for Bracknell’s only try.
Wildboys come up against a much improving Witney side this week, which will no doubt be a tough fixture.

Until next time, keep it Wild.
You know you love me
