Note to all readers.
The reason why this report was not previously published was that I was away on leave. I was asked to lecture at a prestigious university on the subject of literature. Naturally I could not turn that offer down hence why you are receiving it slightly behind schedule.
The day was the 4th of November, a day in which Mozart for the first time performed Symphony No. 36 in 1783. Fast forward 234 years and the Chinnor Wildboys were hoping to perform a symphony on their first run out on a 4G pitch.
The opposition were Aylesbury 2s and no doubt they wanted to perform well against last years winners.
Within the first 5 minutes George Hope found himself a bit of space out wide and got first blood for the Wildboys. Not long after Sam Ludgate found himself with a chance of some points and took them gracefully as he glided over the line. 0-10 was the start the Wildboys needed.
The next try came from Adam Draper which saw Harry Hillier bounce the ball between the two posts on his conversion attempt resulting in another missed conversion.
Aylesbury then dug in deep and found themselves in the Wildboys 22, the ball was kicked clear from number 10 Rob Nichols however he couldn’t find touch. Fortunately the kick-chase was strong and he tackled the Aylesbury fullback resulting in a turnover ball which the Chinnor pack worked hard for.
The following play was delightful to watch and saw Adam Draper breakthrough the defensive line and offload to Mark ‘I want to be a winger’ Bradburn who carted over for his first.
The Wildboys seemed to like going up in 5s so the subsequent conversion was again missed.
Before half time the Wildboys got their bonus point try from the weasel that is Max Wood. Tom White felt it was necessary to show everyone how to take a conversion properly, but he rather embarrassed himself when the ball dribbled off his foot and went no more than 3 yards in front of him.
Half time saw Mark Wilkinson trot into the huddle and present George Hope with a gift wrapped pair of brand new boots, George looked bemused, but it transpired that Mark was accosted by George's sweet love Mrs Appleby-Hope and ordered to deliver the birthday boots to her handsome man. George seemed extremely pleased with his gift from the inlaws, but continued to wear the boots he borrowed from Tom White 2 seasons ago.
The first try in the 2nd half was again from someone wearing black and white. This time Mr Guy Hackshaw crossed the line, and yet again the conversion was missed.
The Wildboys were in rhythm, like a well performing orchestra performing a timeless symphony. A strong run from Max Wood saw him offload to Harry Lowe who skirted over for his first of the day, and finally this time the conversion was slotted by Harry Hillier, 0-37.
The next 10 mins the Wildboys had to work hard if they wanted to keep their clean sheet. Hard hits we’re going in from various players namely George White and Sam Ludgate who both ensured the Aylesbury players found touch before they found the try line.
With the lack of kicking ability across the Wildboys team, the decision was made to run out of trouble. Rob ‘needs a job in Mothercare’ Nichols was clearly getting commission for selling dummy’s and he found himself in some space with the fullback to beat. He passed to oncoming James ‘#cavapoo’ Way who just needed to jog the rest of the way to score in the corner. However, this wasn’t to be the case. He instantly pulled up which looked like a torn Hamstring and had a hopping race to the line with a scary looking second rower chasing his tail. Fortunately he made it to score the 5 points, however he is now out until Christmas with what turned out to be a hurty groin. We wish him the best. Traditionally the conversion was missed 0-47.
Rob Nichols scored the next, Adam Draper the one after and the one after that with one of those being converted by Guy Hackshaw, 0-59.
The final play of the game came off the back of a dummy pass, no guesses needed as to who from and it saw Harry Hillier bomb over for his 5 points.
Guy Hackshaw kindly converted at finished the game at 0-66.
Man of the Match this week was a tough call with a number of outstanding performances from Dave Kimber, Adam Draper, and Guy Hackshaw. But the final count was split between Sam Ludgate and Rob Nichols who both took the accolade.
Mare of the match was awarded to Chris Jeffcock who allowed the ball to bounce off his back at a restart and fall into touch. What a stupid silly idiot!
Until next time, keep it wild...
You know you love me
