Jones' boot help Wildboys secure win

Chinnor Wildboys vs Reading II's 22nd of October

The Wildboys were looking to continue their winning streak, a bit like Rodger Fedderer who went on to win 65 consecutive tennis matches on grass court between 2003-2008 season. It was top of the league versus the bottom of the league, however it wouldn't of seemed this way due to a spectators point of view. As the Wildboys experienced their most frustrating game of the season so far, in game that has never seen so many mistakes. From the lacklustre warm up it was always going to be a struggle, the Wildboys were also missing some key figures with Rob Nichols, Ed Devine, Pieter Nell, Wild William Taylor, Jon Goodson to name a few were all unavailable. This gave the opportunity for some new and old faces to shine with Adam Roberts coming into the pack with the returning Dom Bradbook-Taylor and Dean Collins with Will Jones getting his first start at fly half.
The first half wasn't a great spectacle with both teams making mistakes in first 15 minutes. The Wildboys seemed to be struggling in the scrum due to the lack of weight they are used to having behind them and were pinned back on numerous occasions due to the opposition fly half having a big enough boot to make Andy Goode proud. Thankfully the brake through came for Chinnor as they found themselves in Readings 22 at the brake down Harry Hillier saw and found a gap to dart through and put the first points on the board, Will Jones converting 7-0.
This sparked a bit of life into the Wildboys and not soon after had their second score. With a few good phases saw Will Jones pop the ball into the path of the cantering George White who smashed his way through the Readings defence to dot down , conversion added by Jones 14-0. Chinnor started to enjoy more possession of the ball and were putting more pressure on Reading, a few good phases down the right with strong carries from Ollie Jackson and Dean Collins saw the ball passed through the hands to Will Jones who showed calmness to cruise over for the third try. Conversion added 21-0 and the half.
The halftime team talk consisted of a much telling off from Captain George White as the Wildboys were not performing to their usual dominant standards. He demanded Chinnor started the second half on the front foot and take the game to Reading. Kick off underway, received by George hope, shanked off the pitch. Not the start they were after and from that after much pressure from Reading in Chinnors half they conceded their first points, conversion missed 21-5.
There were cries from the Captain "Someone please do something" as he was clearly angered by conceding a cheap try, "Do something" he repeated. And not long did he have to wait for someone to do something. In Chinnors 22 James Way received the ball from Adam Draper for the first time this season, he then started to accelerate down the left wing handing off one defender, handing off a second, with only the full back to beat he then delicately chipped it over the defenders head, racing past him the ball bounced up and he plucked it out the air with one hand and then continued to cross the try line to score what is sure to be a contender for try of the season. There were scenes of jubilations as if they had just won a cup final. From that Will Jones followed up with a superb conversion right on the touch line 28-5.
Now the Wildboys started to have more confidence in their play with centre partnership of Jayson Abbott and Draper running strong lines carrying the ball well. There were hard hits flying in from George Hope and Dean Collins who later got binned for hands in the ruck. Chinnor again found themselves camping in Readings 22 trying to brake the defence, phase after phase saw the ball passed to Adam Draper on the switch who jinked his way over for Chinnors final try again Will Jones adding the extras 35-5.
Chinnor now with a healthy lead took the foot off the pedal for the remainder of the game which resulted in Reading battling for a bit of pride. Off a Reading scrum their heavy back row found a gap in the Wildboys defence, as he broke through a brave Dom Bradbook-Taylor met him with a cover tackle who unfortunately came off worse and found himself unconscious for several minutes, thankfully he reclaimed consciousness and was carried off the pitch, we wish him a speedy recovery. With the resulting injury Chinnor endured more pressure and found themselves defending for the rest of the match, eventually Reading broke through their defence to add another 5 points to their tally. With the conversion missed the game ended 35-10.
It was a game to forget for the Wildboys as they were far from their best. With Bracknell visiting kingsey road this Saturday the boys have a lot of work to do if they want to remain unbeaten. Anyhow this weeks man of the match has to go to Will Jones for his superb first start of year and for his reliable kicking out of hand and off the tee. Mare of the Match went to Dean Collins for his booking offence
