Wildboys Thrash Recently Promoted Thatcham

Chinnor III's maintain their solid start to the season

Chinnor III’s vs Thatcham II’s

Saturday the 19th of September bought together the Chinnor III’s and the recently promoted Thatcham II’s.
Thatcham were still looking for their first win in this league and Chinnor were looking to maintain their great start to the season, so a competitive game was expected. With the blue skies out, the sun shining, and the beer festival in full swing the Wildboys were eager to impress. This week captain George White was unavailable due to other Wild Boy commitments however the return of Rob Nichols saw another strong side on the playing field.
With the sun cream plastered over Elliott Bevan the kick off saw Wild Bill collect the ball and run hard at the opposing defence. Chinnor started very dominant and scored 2 tries within 10 mins. Both these coming from open play, where the forwards worked hard around the breakdown and the backs put Guy Hackshaw in both times. There was then a lull from the prevailing Chinnor III’s where no points were scored and Thatcham got close to the Chinnor try line. Hard defence by both the pack and the backs removed the risk of a score coming from the threatening Thatcham II’s. Soon after Elliott Bevan grabbed his second try of the season after Chinnor appeared to be playing much better after their lull. He then nearly threw the game away by telling the ref that we don’t have any front row left, and wanted to go uncontested after an injury. Dane White and Matt Barker both stepped up to save the game being thrown by Bevan.
Words were spoken by standing in captain Tom White, and rugby analyst Guy Woodeson at half time telling the Wildboys where they appeared to be lacking the clinical finishes. This seemed to have worked, as the flood gates open in the 2nd half, and Chinnor started to come together to score some wonderful tries. In quick succession Adam Draper scored 2 tries adding 5 to his tally for the season so far after only 2 games, and Jayson Abbott managed to get his first for the season. By this time the temperature must have been pushing 18 °C and Elliott Bevan was getting heat stroke so had to be substituted so he could find some shade. This meant Wild Bill had to step into the front row leaving 1 short in the back row. With only wingers on the bench and the growing size of the Chinnor III’s fly half, it made sense to put Rob Nichols into the back row. Guy Woodeson then came and stepped into his favoured fly half position and Chinnor starting scoring even more tries. A further 2 from Adam Draper saw his tally go up to 7 providing him with an early lead as top try scorer for the season. Some hard hitting by Dom Bradbrook Taylor and Rich Colebrooke kept Thatcham at bay as they didn’t offer much of a threat. With the final whistle looming Dane White managed to grab 1, whilst Guy Woodeson managed to jink his trunk through to go under for his first of the season. A final try from Rob Nichols saw the Wildboys finish the game at 71-0.
With a very important game next Saturday against last season’s winners Bracknell II’s, the Wildboys are keen to keep up this momentum.
