DEAN Collins scored two tries as our Wildboys recorded back-to-back bonus-point wins with victory over Swindon College Old Boys.
Liam Gilbert, George Hope and Ben McIntosh also crossed in the win at Kingsey Road, with the five points confirmed a week or so later after the match was abandoned on 62 minutes due to the visitors only having 11 players left on the pitch.
We started the Counties 1 Southern North fixture well, matching Swindon physically, and opened up a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes, thanks to a Sam Angell penalty.
We continued to enjoy the upper hand and Karl Crockford's try was adjudged to have been held up, but we did not have to wait much longer.
Our first try of the afternoon arrived on 28 minutes when fly-half Harry Lowe took a tap-and-go penalty six metres from the whitewash and fed No 8 Gilbert to go over. Angell stepped up to add the extras and make it 10-0.
Swindon's penalty count was now increasing under mounting pressure and our Wildboys made them pay as a catch and drive led to hooker Collins crossing for an unconverted score.
There was still time for our third try before half-time and it was easy on the eye. Inside centre Angell ran a fine line on the outside of the 22 and a lovely offload found flanker Hope who powered his way over the whitewash. Angell converted as we led 22-0 at the break.
The second period unfortunately began with a flurry of cards. Collins was sin-binned for a high tackle, before Swindon found themselves down to 13 men when a red card was issued for a dangerous tackle and yellow for a late tackle.
This did not deter our Wildboys and the four-try bonus point was secured on 53 minutes. Scrum-half Charlie Nicholls started it off with a tap penalty and we went through the phases on the 22, making use of the additional width, with Lowe feeding wing McIntosh to dive over in the corner.
Seven minutes later and we would increase our lead further as another catch and drive led to Collins going over for his second of the afternoon.
Unfortunately, the match was then abandoned at Swindon's request after 62 minutes. The outcome of the fixture was left in the hands of the League Secretary and the decision was made to award us the victory.
