CHINNOR Wildboys continued their winning start to the season with an impressive victory over Bicester at Kingsey Road.
Tries from Karl Crockford, Guy Hackshaw, Joe Chapman and Rob Nichols secured the four-try bonus-point before a dogged defensive effort kept the visitors at bay.
Four straight bonus-point wins puts our Wildboys top of Counties 1 Tribute Southern North - a superb start to their debut campaign at Level 7.
Bicester opened the scoring courtesy of a tenth-minute penalty, but moments later and it was Chinnor who crossed the whitewash first. A Bicester knock-on presented a penalty advantage and we were held just short after spreading the ball wide. We took our opportunity, though, as tighthead prop Crockford attacked around the corner to score. Scrum-half Charlie Nicholls slotted the extras for a 7-3 lead.
The visitors started to dominate possession and field play, but their only reward was a penalty which saw them close the gap to one point.
Our Widboys' response was to score two tries in the space of three minutes to lead 19-6 at the break.
A penalty allowed us to kick deep into the Bicester half and flanker Hackshaw crashed through after our forwards had patiently gone through the phases. Nicholls converted to extend our advantage to eight points.
There was still time for our third try and it was a beauty. Great play from the backs from half-way broke Bicester lines and winger Chapman stepped inside and breezed over for an unconverted try.
Chinnor then made a lightning start to the second half and Hackshaw superbly charged down a kick which led to a lineout deep in the visitors' half. We attacked off the top and inside centre Nichols ran a fine line and went over under the sticks. Nicholls added the extras and we now led 26-6.
Bicester refused to give in and came back at us, but we dug in and restricted them to just one try which was scored off a driving maul.
A fantastic victory and our Men's Third XV now head to Bletchley this Saturday.
