AFTER a few weeks of weather breaks, the Wildboys laced the boots back up and welcomed Gosford All Blacks to Kingsey Road, writes Sam Angell.
The Wildboys had selected a strong team with a hunger to be back out on the field.
The game started at a frantic pace with the Wildboys taking control of the ball and testing Gosford’s defensive line. Gosford stood strong for the first ten minutes and defended with a real resilience. Eventually a long kick bounced to debutant Sam Nicholls who made his way through the Gosford defence, offloading to George Hope who cantered in unchallenged.
Chinnor then began to control territory and possession, playing structured, quick rugby and stretching the Gosford defence. It wasn’t long before Joe Chapman scored in the corner. Charlie Nicholls followed it up with a lovely strike from the tee, and the Wildboys confidence was growing.
Blewitt was the next to cross, his dive to the tryline looked more like a giraffe on ice. Charlie Nicholls once again converted. Monty Graham and Sam Jones went over to finish the half, with Charlie Nicholls and Sam Nicholls converting one each.
The Wildboys showed some fantastic offloading, pace of play and continued to play with a great skillset early in the second half, with Frank Jones controlling the game from nine following Charlie having a poorly finger. Second half tries came from Chapman (2), Guy Hackshaw, Jacob Whitfield, Ben McIntosh, Andrew Prosser, Karl Crockford, Hope, Graham and Jones.
The game finished 99-0. Whilst it was a good day for the Wildboys, credit must go to Gosford who continued to defend valiantly for the full 80 minutes.
