2nd XV return home with a class display in a fantastic game of skills.

Chinnor first home game for a while and the team were ready and eagerly waiting our opponents Richmond Normans who sat just below us in the league. Chinnor kick off and Richmond start brightly with a well drilled exit strategy, some speedy backs attacking our 22 metre in an instant. Chinnor hold firm defensively and are awarded a penalty preventing a early try.The game is played at frantic pace, Ben Newman taps and goes and is unlucky not to score. All this within the first 5 minutes. Everybody is thinking we are in for a hell of a game, both teams were playing with such high intensity, pace and showing superb skills.

Chinnor pack start to take control and its on 12 min that Chinnor are awarded a penalty on the 22 metre for off side, James Cathcart slots over 3-0. Richmond come straight back at Chinnor and show good skills when they play within the backs who look threatening. On 20 min Richmond are awarded a penalty which they kicked into the corner, from a successful driving maul at the line out and a quick snap down the blindside Richmond score in the corner and successfully convert 3-7 .The game was becoming a good contest ,very competitive ,with penalties been given away on both sides. On 25 min James Cathcart's quick thinking from another penalty kicks cross field to Harry Hillier and is unfortunate not to score ,Richmond realign there defence quickly but a string of passes from the Chinnor backs leads to George Grose touching down in the corner. A successful conversion from the right foot of James Cathcart puts Chinnor in front 10-7. Once again Richmond's response is excellent and following some great angles of running they score and convert 10 -14. This was the last time they score. Chinnor regroup and start to boss the game ,with a great team performance . On 30 min Chinnor take advantage of the penalty and the extra 10 yards for verbal ,James kicks to the corner and another catch and drive leads to Simon Mathews scoring with the conversion slotted 17-14. Chinnor are now becoming rampant and score again just before half time .James who was outstanding throughout kicks another successful cross field kick that is caught by George Grose who runs In for his second try of the game, which James converts making the score 24-14.

Second Half starts and within minutes Max Williams scores , following excellent work and possession from the boys ,James converting again 31-14.Richmond continue to play positively, showing great spirit and are unlucky not to score during this half it is just not their day . On 62mins Nick Harrison scores under the posts after a strong line break and yet another conversion 38-14.On 65 min Martin Nutt shows his silky skills to score his first try of the day 45-14. On 68 min the best try of the day straight off the training field, Martin Nutt breaks the line once again finding George Grose with a pop inside, who loops a long pass to Guy Hacksaw to score and once again conversion James Cathcart. 52-14. The last try of the day went to Martin Nutt who was outstanding ,strong direct running with great agility 59-14.The team’s performance brightened up the cold winters day with the whole team performing for each other playing free flowing rugby which was a joy to watch.

The reporters Man of the match is James Cathcart for his 100% kicking record ,2 cross field kicks resulting in assists for 2 tries, vintage Cathcart rolling back the years. This was a great team performance and effort with outstanding performance from all but naming a few others Max Williams ,Nicky Harrison, Ian stock ,Martin Nutt George Grose[apologies to the guys I missed you were all fantastic] also a big thank you to George White, Simon Mathews and Martin Bradley filling in at the last minute.
