must regroup

Chinnor Seconds welcomed Redingensians to Kingsey Road for their home league match. With injuries and unavailabilities running around 15 players, it provided us with a challenge for selection. We were fortunate to get four players to help us out Pat Prell from the 3rds Simon Hill from the 4ths and twins Dean and Ryan Collins two 18 year olds a big thank you.

Gensians 2nds proved to be a much bigger and physical pack which caught the Chinnor boys on the back foot and resulted in defensive rugby from the start. Chinnor were down 17 – nil within the first 20 minutes. It didn’t help with the ref delivering another blow when James Cathcart queried the Ref getting in his way for the latter try scored and added another 3 points by giving the visitors a penalty from the half way line, and with the help of the wind the lead increased to 20 points to nil. This spurred the boys on but, we then lost Elliot Bevan, Matty Mountford and George Blewitt to injury, making it tougher than ever. On the stroke of half time young Dean Collins restored hope by putting Chinnor’s first points on the board and the half finished 20 points to 5 for Redingensians. It did seem that the boys underestimated the Gensians capability from the start.

The second half start was a disaster for Chinnor when they conceded a try within the first 2 minutes. Ed Vickers then scored twenty minutes later and closed the gap to 25 – 10. The Chinnor boys were left in a position of having to chase the game and with two break away tries scored against them, the Gensian lead increased to 37 points. Dean Collins managed to score his second try just before the end and the game finished 37 points to 15 for the visitors.

Unfortunately we lost too many turnover balls, with the visitors being allowed to be off their feet and playing the ball with hands on the ground in the rucks. This is not an excuse or sour grapes Redingensians were the better side on the day and certainly deserved to win.

Points scored 267 against 77. Tries 43 scored
