The Scoobies welcomed Cambridge for our first home game of 2016, our team selection was well balanced with the experience of some old heads and youth with 10 under 20s in the squad with Starting debuts for Max McMinn, Oscar Clayton,Ollie Dawkins and Scott Gibson. The first half was a good battle between both teams, Cambridge completely dominating the scrum and Chinnor dominating the loose whilst defending the line superbly throughout. It took 35 minutes for the first score, Cambridge number 8 picked up the ball from the base of the scrum drawing in the Chinnor defence to create an overlap to score in corner.0-5. Chinnor hit back quickly with a penalty on the stroke of half time to reduce the deficit, 3-5.
Chinnor start the second half magnificently. Cambridge clear their 22 metre line with a kick straight to Harry lowe mid way in the Chinnor half, who counter attacks into the Cambridge half and delicately kicks through for Joe Vandermolen to pick up the ball to score in the corner.8-5.Chinnor are playing good rugby considering the pressure placed upon our forwards at the scrum,. which during the game resulted in 3 yellow cards for repeat offences. There were opportunities for both teams to add to the score with both defences holding their own. Eventually Cambridge dominance in the scrum is rewarded with a penalty try.8-12. The team respond again with great desire and in the last play score to snatch victory. A quick tap penalty from Michael Owen who crashes over the line and Max McMInn slots the conversion. Final score 15-12.
Overall this was a great result, Well done boys and thank you to Charles Clayton for the great photos.
