The team atmosphere is buoyant and the focus in warm up is intense with Ian Stock and RIcky Hopwood rallying the scoobies.
Shelford kick off and dominate early possession and are awarded a penalty after 3 minutes to take an early lead. The boys hit back with Joe Winterburn breaking the gain line from a good angled run, he is tackled and from quick ball an overlap is created for Oscar Heath to score and Charlie Nicholls convert , 7-3. Chinnor are starting to control the game and score again on 17 minutes. A delicate kick through from Joe Winterburn to the half way line is collected by Seb Scott who shows great strength from a superb run breaking a couple of tackles and scoring in the corner, 12-3. The boys are now on top and playing good rugby, they extend the lead further with Oscar Heath scoring his second try bursting through mid field to score under the posts and Charlie Nicholls converting, 19-3. The Score is extended just before half time with Josh Preston scoring (congratulations on his south west selection trial) with Charlie converting. Half time 26-3
The second half Shelford respond well and score/ convert to reduce the deficit, 26-10. Both sides have opportunities to score but it is not until 70 minutes that Chinnor add to the score with Nick Harrison scoring in the corner, 31-10. With the final minutes drawing close Shelford score a, well deserved, late consolation try. Final score 31-15.
This was a good solid team performance with a blend of 9 under 20 year olds and the experience of the older club men getting everybody back on the road. We will be looking forward to our next opponents Clifton in a fortnight with this new found confidence.
