CHINNOR Falcons produced an impressive second half display as they pushed the RAF close in an entertaining contest at Kingsey Road.
Our 2nd XV trailed 21-0 at the break, but went on to cross five times in the second period as just seven points separated the sides at the end.
In all honesty, the first half was a little stop-start but the visitors did cross three times through James Roberts, Jon Howard and former Chinnor wing Ryan Crowley. The scoreline was perhaps a little harsh on the boys, with the latter score coming from well within their own half, with Crowley stripping the ball and running in from some 80m.
However, within four minutes of the second half, we had incredibly reduced the deficit to 14-21.
Back row Mylo Sadiki pressured the RAF from the kick-off and lock Will James profited from a loose offload to touch down. Minutes later and Josh Hodson - playing at full-back - danced through to run in under the sticks. Scrum-half Jake Varney converted both and we were only seven points behind.
Game on, but the RAF were to go on and punish a few of our errors, scoring three tries through Zack Taylor, Conor Morris and Tom Windibank - Jordan Oatley converting the latter - as they went 14-38 in front after 64 minutes.
However, there was still plenty of life in our Falcons and we responded brilliantly. No 8 Will Cadden caught the restart and we powered forward from there, with Sadiki driving over for an unconverted try.
It was now all Chinnor and with replacement fly-half Harry Lowe and the impressive Will Cave - who played at hooker, openside and No 8 on a busy evening - threatening, we eventually forced our way over for our fourth score.
There was still time to add to our tally and we did, with a series of pick and goes ten metres out, resulting in Cave charging through a gap and over for a well-deserved try. He even converted it himself and we were back within seven.
That was to be the end of the scoring, but a great shift from our Falcons and we wish the RAF well for the Inter Services.
