Chinnor Seconds Match Report 28th October 2010
Barnes vs Chinnor 2nds away
Chinnor seconds surprised Barnes second team with a great win by 21 points to 17 with another win giving us 2 out of 2 for the pre season friendlies.
Six changes were made to last week’s side and we knew it was going to be a big ask for the young guns to step up to the challenge. But they did just that.
Barnes team was a big unit of well-drilled and physical lads making some of the Chinnor boys look little by comparison.
Right from the start Barnes put Chinnor seconds under a lot of pressure, and as the scrums were uncontested Chinnor lost their normal edge that they tend to enjoy over most teams.
Chinnor put the first points on the board with the back line getting the ball out to Baz Corpe who outpaced the opposition and scored under the posts, the try was converted by Sam Angell. Barnes came back 5 minutes later with an unconverted try of their own.
The next twenty minutes proved to be bruising rugby with big tackles coming in from both teams. Barnes then took the lead with a converted try and led 12 points to 7.
Five minutes later, due to great work by the pack Andy Berry scored and once again Angell converted.
On the stroke of half time Barnes scored a try but was unsuccessful with the conversion and the First half ended 17 points to 14 in Barnes’ favour.
The second half started and proved to be as tough and physical as the first with big hits and with attacking rugby by both teams. The defence play from both teams was most impressive and most of the rugby was played between the two 22 meter lines.
After twenty minutes of play the forwards narrowed their play which drew Barnes in and resulted in the backs getting the quick ball out to Baz Corpe, who once again outpaced the defence and scored under the posts with his second try. Again Angell converted and added the two extra points. Chinnor went onto lead 21 points to 17.
The last 20 minutes Barnes laid siege on the Chinnor try line but with the team’s awesome defence they were able to deny Barnes the spoils.
The forwards were fantastic with Simon Tattersall, Ed Divine, Ed Rixon, Jon Lavin and Andy Berry getting over the advantage line every time they picked up the ball with the others doing what needed to be done.
All the backs had a good game with Sam Angell, Baz Corpe and Brendan Davis standing out.
The Final result was Chinnor 21 vs Barnes 17
Now we move into the league with our first game away to Newbury a new team in the Shield with new challenges.
