Zombies spotted in Thame

This match was the low point in Chinnor's season. Zombie-like, Chinnor failed to perform at any point during the match which they lost by 22-7.

On the 10th minute, a woefully thrown Chinnor pass, some 7 metres behind the intended recipient, allowed Exmouth’s Jack Downie a hack forward and a foot race to the line to score Exmouth’s first try. It was evident from the start that the Exmouth pack were going to be competitive. Attacking the Chinnor line led to a series of rucks where Chinnor's Sam Jones was yellow carded for interference on the ground. Exmouth fly half Shaun Fayter converted the offence into three points for the Cockles.

With the strong wind against them, Chinnor felt that only eight points down at half-time was retrievable. However, on the 41st minute Exmouth’s Tom Elliott ran in their second try after some indifferent Chinnor tackling. Converted by Fayter, Exmouth went in 15-0 at half-time.

With the wind now in their favour, Chinnor hoped to make amends for a lamentable first half performance. On the 49th minute Sam Jones clocked up Chinnor's only try of the match which, converted by Cathcart, made the score 7-15. Hopes began to rise when on the 55th minute, Exmouth’s Downie was yellow carded for a no hands tackle. However, it was Exmouth who continued to take the fight to Chinnor whose habit of dropping or forward passing the ball made their opponent's task all the easier.

Exmouth went further ahead in the match when flanker Ben Boswell scored and converted his own try to make the match score 22-7 in Exmouth's favour. Chinnor continued to meander aimlessly until the final whistle which brought some relief to tortured onlookers.

Exmouth were nowhere near the best side that Chinnor have faced all season. Chinnor’s low energy and aimless performance made them look a very decent side. Perhaps the difference was that Exmouth clearly played to try and win whereas Chinnor appeared to play as if the match was a punishment. Only Macsen Williams of the Chinnor side was worthy of mention.
