Chinnor’s see-saw form saw a definite upward swing in their 7 try demolition of Gloucester’s Coney Hill.
Chinnor started brightly when a width of the field passing movement found hooker Cawston in space on the left. He scampered over for Chinnor's first try in the 2nd minute. Five minutes later, Cathcart increased Chinnor's lead to 8-0 with a well struck penalty goal. Coney Hill was soon on level terms with a penalty goal from Rory Baker followed shortly by an unconverted try from full-back Danny Davis, benefiting from a misfielded kick ahead.
On the 23rd minute, Farr, breaking on the left, unselfishly and delightfully worked a three on two overlap to send Harry Jackman in under the posts. Converted by Cathcart, Chinnor led 15-8. With 32 minutes on the clock, full-back Wallace joined the Chinnor line at speed releasing Serrano to bash his way over for Chinnor's third try, duly converted by Cathcart. Chinnor went in 22-8 ahead at the break.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Coney Hill saw the first of three yellow cards of the afternoon with skipper Craig Ballinger sent for a 10 minute rest. Exploiting the reduced numbers, Chinnor worked the ball quickly to left wing Ben Farr whose pace left the opposition transfixed in scoring Chinnor's fourth and bonus point earning try. Blindside flanker Sam Jones was then replaced by debutant Ben Ramsdale. Shortly afterwards Cathcart was replaced by the returning Ben Hewitt.
The match then entered a quiet phase with the next score not achieved until the 72nd minute when Mowbray touched down a pushover try, shortly after Coney Hill's second yellow card of the afternoon. In the 76th minute scrum-half Prescott outfoxed the opposition and darted through the defence to score under the posts, with Cathcart converting. Immediately after Coney Hill’s third yellow card of the match in the 79th minute, Harry Jackman scored the second of his two tries to make the victory 46-8.
This was a victory founded on an impressive performance from the Chinnor forwards. Quick to the breakdown, solid in their tackling and prevailing in the scrum, the Chinnor pack paved the way for their backs. The front row were dominant and in Harry Jackman and Macsen Williams, Chinnor had the best two players on the park. Ramsdale had a solid debut and Hewitt's out of hand kicking was masterful. Prescott was sparkier than of late and Stoop used his left boot to good effect.
