With Fielding and Waddingham unavailable, Tristan Corpe and Evan Sawyer came into the team.
Chinnor started well, when after only four minutes, Pickett, on the end of a speedy rolling maul, touched down for Chinnor’s first try. Millett's conversion put the home side ahead 7-0.
The match, played in dank conditions, see-sawed between the 22s with neither side able to break defences. It took until the 30th minute for the next score when MIllett popped over a penalty goal to give the home side a 10-0 lead. The score continued until half time as Chinnor looked well in control of the match.
Just seven minutes into the second half, Chinnor repulsed a Ding’s attack and Tristan Corpe sped down the tramlines to offload to Goode who cantered in for a well worked try. Millett’s conversion put the home side comfortably ahead 17-0.
Ding’s Crusaders, who had hardly had a sniff of the Chinnor line throughout the match thus far kept to the task. Their persistence was rewarded in the final quarter with three unanswered tries. Plummer went over in the 59th minute, followed by Wheeler in the 74th minute. Ding’s, now just three points behind at 17-14 and with five minutes to play, upped their game as Chinnor wilted. With two minutes to go and palpable Ding’s belief, Dempsey scooted over for the third try - all of which were converted by Woodrow to give the visitors from Bristol a 21-17 victory.
Chinnor will be disappointed that, having controlled three quarters of the match, their concentration and willpower tailed off dramatically to allow Dings an ultimately well-deserved victory. Pickett's early try seemed most appropriate as the prop, in his last match for Chinnor, leaves to play in Australia for the next year. Ding’s ability to never give up was rewarded with more determined play in the last quarter to give them the victory.
