CHINNOR marched on with a fourth bonus-point win in a row as they secured a commanding victory over Old Elthamians at a windy Kingsey Road.

Jason Worrall crossed twice, taking his tally to 17 for the season, as the Thame-based side produced a dominant performance on Ladies Day.

Joe Rees, Willie Ryan and Nick Selway also went over as Chinnor remain fourth in National League 1 and four points behind second-placed Rosslyn Park.

The Oxfordshire side were always in control against Elthamians, but were unable to make their dominance count in the first half as they only led 14-0 playing with the wind to their backs.

However, they went on to brilliantly claim the five points they deserved in front of guest of honour the Mayor of Thame Councillor Ann Midwinter, to keep the pressure on the teams above them.

Chinnor were forced into a late change with Sam Yawayawa missing out through injury, so Danny Barnes returned at outside centre to make his first start since the defeat to Elthamians back in October.

Prop Danny Southworth, centre Pete Laverick and scrum-half Jake Ashby were also handed starts, with captain Worrall moving to the right wing.

The writing was perhaps on the wall in the second minute when winger Josh Hodson went bursting through a gap and raced up the middle of the pitch before winning a penalty. Chinnor were unable to make the most of the subsequent lineout, but it was a warning shot.

It was a little bit of a messy opening to the game, but the home side took the lead on 12 minutes. This time full-back Will Harries broke the gain line and looked certain to score before he was tackled by Alex Goble. The ball was recycled quickly and tighthead prop Rees forced his way over from close range for his first try for the club. Fly-half Laurence May added the extras to make it 7-0.

Chinnor were dominating the game, with Elthamians unable to get out of their own half, but they defended well to prevent the hosts from doubling their lead.

Their heroic effort was broken on 29 minutes, though, as the ball was worked from one side of the pitch to the other following a lineout and Worrall darted through to dive over. May converted to make it 14-0.

That was to be the end of the scoring in a first half which finished with a succession of scrums.

Chinnor might have been frustrated to have only scored two tries after dominating possession and territory with the conditions in their favour.

Elthamians made a positive start to the second period and got on the scoreboard through a Hilton Gibbons penalty.

However, that was as good as it got for the visitors and Chinnor took back control and impressively scored three tries into the strong wind.

The lead was extended to 21-3 after 62 minutes when a catch and drive was stopped short, but Ryan appeared out of nowhere from the ruck to plant the ball over the try-line. May converted to keep up another good day from the tee.

Elthamians were always going to enjoy more territory in the second half due to the conditions, but Chinnor defended brilliantly to keep them out and went on to score two more tries in the last ten minutes.

After working the ball right, Worrall brilliantly broke the gain line and beat the last man Brian Hotston to dive over in the corner. May was unlucky not to keep up his 100 per cent conversion rate, with his effort hitting the bar and bouncing the wrong side.

There was still time for Chinnor to add to their points total and the fifth try arrived in the last play. With Elthamians penalised, Dom McGeekie receiving a yellow card as a result, the ball was kicked to the corner and a catch and drive led to Selway plunging over for his 15th score of the season. May then brilliantly added the extras from the touchline to complete another superb afternoon.
