Chinnor enjoy an emphatic victory over London Irish

LONDON IRISH WILD GEESE 24 – CHINNOR RFC 43

It didn’t take Chinnor long to start the scoring when, after just 2 minutes, Keiran Goss cut through the Irish defence to put Henry Lamont over for a try converted by Goodfellow. This was soon followed by a driving maul from a 5 metre lineout putting lock Harry Casson over near the corner with Goodfellow converting again.
London Irish were later reduced to 14 men following a yellow card incident. Chinnor made the most of this with quick passing creating an overlap for Cassons to score his second try which was unconverted. The Irish counterattacked on several occasions but Chinnor’s defence stood resolute.
Towards the end of the first half Goss found the gap again allowing winger Jamel Hamilton to score the bonus point try, converted by Goodfellow. A Will Bordill break and drive took Chinnor into the Irish 22 metre area, where, following four phases of possession, it was that man Casson crashing over for his third try, unconverted. In the last play of the half a blind side break by the Irish put winger Owen over in the corner for an unconverted try and giving Chinnor a convincing 5 – 31 point half time lead.
Chinnor started the second half dominating play allowing fly half Jonny Bentley to skip through the opposition’s defence to score near the posts. Goodfellow converted again to take the lead to 5 – 38. The Wild Geese rallied following a yellow card to Lamont and a forward drive resulted in a try for their No 8 Harry Rowlands, converted by fly half Hodgekinson. Lamont’s return to the field was marked by his second try following a Hamilton half break and quick feed enabling Lamont to use his speed to round the opposition to score an unconverted try.
London Irish fought back with another blindside break by Hodgekinson who scored an unconverted try. Indiscipline by Chinnor resulted in a Yellow Card for Oliver. The Wild Geese capitalised on this by throwing their whole back into a forward drive, crashing over the line for Chamnaoui to claim their much needed bonus point try which was unconverted and giving the final score of a 24 – 43 point victory to Chinnor.
Next week 3rd placed Chinnor are at home, in what promise to be an exciting local derby, against 5th placed Redingensians.
