Chinnor, after an initial scare, rounded off their season with a 45-26 win against relegated Southend.
Chinnor started brightly, keeping the ball in the Saxons half for the first 10 minutes, aided by the sin binning of Southend's Chesney. However, they could not turn their possession or position into points as the scramble defence for the visitors was just enough. The game then changed dramatically in Southend's favour with yellow cards to Chinnor's Fatialofa and Phipps in quick succession. The Saxons took full advantage and ran in three quick tries from Meads (2) and Gay against Chinnor's 13 men to go 19-0 ahead in even time.
With players back, Chinnor came back strongly in the final few minutes of the half with tries from Tyas and Heath to go in 14-19 behind at the break.
The second half was all Chinnor with five tries, coming at regular intervals throughout the half. Heath added three more to his first half tally - with one being the now trademark interception from 80 metres out. Full back Goss, fielding the ball on his own 22, then glided through the Saxons defence to dot down under the posts for Chinnor's fifth try of the day. A bullocking run from 30 metres out from no 8 Messum saw Chinnor's final try of the day. With a few minutes remaining, Saxons' former Chinnor winger Reuben Haile barrelled his way over for Southend's bonus point try to finish the match for a 45-26 victory to Chinnor. Oscar Heath's tally for the match was 30 points (and 25 tries for the season) and is an easy choice for man of the match. Chinnor, having spent the earlier part of the season flirting with relegation, finish in a creditable 6th position in National 2 South.
