13 man Chinnor squeeze the win

Dorking lose three to hospital

In a match frequently disrupted by injuries (three Dorking players requiring hospital attendance) and sin bins, Chinnor squeezed past visitors Dorking by 23-19.

The first 20 minutes were all Chinnor with Lamont, who was speedy throughout, scoring a well worked try after five minutes (pictured, above), followed by a penalty try as the home scrum showed complete dominance. Cargill's conversion put Chinnor ahead 12-0. Dorking then came back with a converted try from Roux. Chinnor extended their lead to 15-7 with a penalty goal from Cargill. Sharp work from lively Dorking scrum half MacDonald at a penalty saw two quick passes to unmarked wing Marfo for an easy touch down to see the half out at 15-12.

Just into the second half, a break out wide by Chinnor lock Burns failed just before the try line. Quick recycling saw Heath nip through the Dorking defence for a try and a home lead of 20-12. Then came a series of yellow cards given against the home side such that, for the next 15 minutes, they only had 13 men on the pitch. Dorking, camped in the Chinnor 22, attacked relentlessly against an impressive 13 man home defence and the dyke eventually burst with a try from Hutson, converted by Noble to bring the score to 20-19. Chinnor kept defending and gradually escaped their own half as sin bin absentees were restored to play. On 76 minutes, Chinnor were awarded a penalty. With nominated kicker Cargill still serving in the sin bin, Heath coolly slotted the goal to put Chinnor ahead 23-19, a lead they managed to hold until the final whistle.

This was a curious match with lengthy stoppages in play as three unfortunate Dorking players were attended on the pitch - all eventually requiring hospital attendance. Chinnor could not please the referee, Mr MacNeaney, and received four yellow cards. They all overlapped so that, for a 15 minute period, Chinnor only had 13 on the pitch. It was during this period that Chinnor won the match - the home 13 man defence heroic in thwarting a pacey and skilful Dorking attack, in which scrum half MacDonald was most threatening. A huge team performance from Chinnor with the efforts of Jones and Messum, in particular, eye catching.
