Doug Humphries reports ...
Chinnor faced a Launceston team determined to get their first victory in this bottom of the table clash. Chinnor started against the wind and were soon on the defensive with both sides making errors. Chinnor took the lead after 8 minutes with penalty converted by fly half Bertie Hopkins
Launceston then had a player put in the sin bin allowing Chinnor to capitalise on their extra man advantage. Quick handling put winger Marcus Beer over in the corner for Chinnor’s first try soon followed by a rolling maul with No8 Vandermolen driving over for the second try, neither of which were converted. Hopkins extended Chinnors lead to 16 points with another penalty.
With Launceston back to 15 players they were able to carve through Chinnor’s defence for Childs to score an unconverted try.
Although Chinnor had the wind advantage in the second half they lost two players in quick succession to the sin bin with Vandermolen followed by Burns receiving yellow cards. This put Chinnor on the defensive and eventually Hilton scored an unconverted try for Launceston.
Chinnor managed to hold out until the two players returned to the field and put pressure back on Launceston with Beer scoring his second try of the game.
This 21 – 10 victory to Chinnor lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time this season
