With two good winning performances already in their pre-season campaign, Chinnor hoped to finish their pre-season campaign with a victory over National 2 North's Stourbridge who finished fourth last season.
Chinnor started brightly and had two try scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes. One saw new prop Tom Price gallop from half way only to be hauled down inches from the line. Chinnor had most of the territory and possession but Stourbridge held firm. The first score of the match came in the 32nd minute when Chinnor no 8 Tom Burns went over after a passage of good passing. On the 40th minute, the Chinnor pack, after a few rumbles, broke through for the second try, converted by Bertie Hopkin, to go in 12-0 ahead.
The second half continued Chinnor's domination of territory and their third score came in the 50th minute when Ben Manning was on hand to finish a neat incursion wide out by the Chinnor backs. Stourbridge started to have more ball but foundered on the Chinnor defensive line. Luke Hibberd, on the wing, scored Chinnor's fourth and fifth tries finishing off sustained periods of Chinnor pressure to see a 27-0 home victory to complete an undefeated pre-season.
Chinnor will be pleased with this match for a number of reasons. Their defence was well organised with the back row a decisive influence on the match. Tom Burns had another excellent match at no 8. Skipper Bev Armitage punched well in attack and was immovable defensively in the midfield. Scrums were dominant, even when most of the pack in the final quarter were from the Falcons. Stourbridge will be disappointed for never really putting pressure on the home side. They only had three visits to Chinnor's 22. They did create a number of overlaps wide out but invariably took the wrong option when a scoring opportunity developed. Their greatest problem was an inability to break the Chinnor defensive cordon. Conceding two yellow cards in three minutes just increased the pressure.
Throughout the three pre-season matches, Chinnor have strengthened their defence and introduced a number of new players who have settled in very well. More than anything, they are probably the fittest Chinnor team ever at this stage of the season. They play London Irish Wild Geese at home next Saturday in the first league game of the 16-17 season. Kick off is 3pm
