With all the tribulations at Chinnor recently it might have been expected that this fixture would be cancelled. But to the credit of both Chinnor and London Welsh the game went ahead and provided, if you needed one, a lesson in the difference between Level 4 and Premiership rugby.
London Welsh who were relegated from the Premiership at the end of last season arrived at Kingsey Road with 45+ players of which 41 were full time professionals. Chinnor fans looked at the size of the London Welsh side and many were pleased that they had retired from the game!
While the scoreline shows the difference between the two levels, everyone who watched the game enjoyed seeing the skills that professional players can acquire given time. But it wasn't all London Welsh by any stretch; lets not forget that Andrew Smith and Matt Goode have stepped into a very difficult situation caused by the non-appearance of Craig Chalmers.
The positives from a Chinnor perspective where:
the usual Chinnor never say die attitude was seen in abundance.
Will Millett's try in the 3rd period raised the spirits of the whole crowd
the 3rd period showed a significant improvement as the Chinnor team calls and plays started to work.
So, yes Chinnor got a bit of a pasting, but no-one expects Chinnor to play a better team this season and so the lessons learnt from this fixture will certainly provide great experiences for a side that has a more "normal fixture" next week against Tonbridge Juddians.
