Chinnor 3rd XV bidding to build on impressive opening few months of 2022/23 season

CHINNOR Wildboys have made a dream start to life at level 7 - but they are not resting on their laurels.

After ten games, our 3rd XV sit top of Counties 1 Southern North, with their impressive unbeaten run dating back to January 2018 still intact.

Having moved up two levels, our Wildboys knew they would have to step things up a notch and they have certainly done that.

With availability and injury playing their inevitable roles, it has been a real squad effort so far and among their ten wins are notable away victories against Gosford All Blacks, Marlow and Wallingford.

The 30-19 triumph at Marlow over a fortnight ago has helped them open up a five-point lead over the Buckinghamshire side, but with still more than half of the season to play our Wildboys - while pleased with the way they have stepped up - are always striving for improvement.

"I think it's fair to say we've taken it all in our stride," said forward Tom Alexander.

"A lot of players have stepped up – physicality-wise, attendance, everything – and that’s really enabled us to be where we are at the moment.

"Having Sam Angell and Frank Jones as coaches makes a huge difference, and Hywel Evans as Team Manager is a big help and he helps things run smoothly.

"We’ve stepped up to this standard with a really solid set-piece, especially at line-out time, and that has allowed our backs to enjoy a lot of dominance over the opposition.

"Physicality from the forwards has been on another level - I’ve never seen us go about our work like this before – and absolute class from the backs to finish as we’ve scored some unbelievable tries.

"We’ve clicked on a few occasions playing with a new structure, but we're still not quite firing with this new style and when that happens I’m really excited to see what we can achieve.

"Our goal is to just continue to improve. Continue to perfect our style of play because there is still a lot of work ons in attack and defence. It’s looking like we’re heading in the right direction, but we have some tough games coming up."

Next up for our Wildboys is a home fixture against Milton Keynes this Saturday (2:30pm kick-off).
