After the cliffhanging final game at the end of April we ended on a high but the play-offs just eluded us. With the new season approaching we are anticipating another great season. We have signed some exciting new players that we hope will help us challenge for promotion again this season.
This will be another landmark season for us at Kingsey Road and there are two exciting pre-season home games against Ebbw Vale 12th August and Old Albanians 26th August. Please come along and support Chinnor, your local community club, and see what we are all about.
We encourage players of all age groups to join us and benefit from the facilities the club has to offer, including coaching and equipment, plenty of changing rooms and showers, floodlit training, gym (adult players only), no match fees, etc. If your playing days are behind you - or you never played but want to watch good rugby and be part of our community - you can join as a Adult member.
Besides the Chinnor first team in the National Leagues and the Falcons in the Zoo Sports Shield Division 1, we have three other senior teams that play local rugby to a good standard and enjoy the camaraderie it brings. The Wildboys play in the Berks/Bucks and Oxon league (and were league winners last year) and the Outlaws play social rugby. The Oxen play in the Vets leagues and also play social rugby.
We welcome more players of all ages so why not come along at 7.15 on Friday evenings to enjoy a bit of social touch rugby and make new friends? Tuesday is training night for the seniors and Wednesday is when the Colts and Juniors (U14s - U18s) train, so please join us at 7pm to have fun and play exciting rugby.
The Youth section of the club trains and plays on Sundays from 10am and is hugely popular, with over 300 players and teams at every age level from Under 6s to Under 18s. We are extremely proud of our youth policy, embracing core values of spirit and friendship which helps make us a hugely successful and popular club in the community and one of Oxfordshire's largest youth organisations. The youth section is run by parents who are all volunteers, with support and encouragement from our senior squad. The Club Coaching Philosophy is “To place the needs of the child first and encourage an atmosphere and environment where winning matches is neither the sole nor most important measure of success.” Additionally there is an RFU Player Pathway, which covers Under 6s to Under 18s before the transition to adult rugby. This player progression introduces skills and competition in a structured and sympathetic way, and is underpinned by the core values of rugby. These are Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. So if you are interested in getting your sons or daughters started in rugby there is no better place to begin than here at Chinnor RFC. Keep watching our web site for bulletins and updates for the 2017/8 season. We look forward to seeing you soon.
