Following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, we can confirm the following update for our Senior Squad

WITH pre-season due to start in just under a month, we can now begin to announce our Senior Squad for the 2022/23 campaign.

Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe is busy preparing for the Club’s fourth (excluding the Covid year) term in National 1.

Work has been undertaken to build on our positive finish to the last campaign and further strengthen the side, with our new signings to be announced at the beginning of August.

This update is about our squad from 2021/22 and we are delighted to confirm five re-signings, with the following players committing to the Club after their deals expired at the end of last season.

Conor Brockschmidt
George Grose
Keston Lines
Charley Robinson
Jack Walsh

Thorpe said: “I am delighted that we have been able to re-sign Conor, George, Keston, Charley and Jack for the 2022/23 season. All five players were invaluable members of last season's team, particularly Conor who pulled on the black and white shirt more times than any other player in the Senior Squad. With some new recruits to be announced later in the summer, these re-signings demonstrate our commitment to retaining our top talent and I am excited to see these lads in action again next season.”

At this time of year we do also say goodbye to players who are moving on for a variety of reasons.

We would like to thank the following for their efforts in a Chinnor jersey and wish them all the very best for the future.

Ryan Crowley
Charlie Fleckney
Ben Glynn
Jacob Ham
Oscar Heath
Alex Hunt
Tom Ranaboldo
Seb Scott
Ollie Smith
Dan Thomas
Max Titchener
Soane Tonga’uiha
Tom Whitehurst

Thorpe added: “The nature of the business we’re in will typically see certain players leave at the end of each season. Whilst reasons are varied, many of the above have taken the decision to seek regular 1st XV rugby elsewhere. Our large, competitive Senior Squad last season did result in many very talented rugby players not getting the meaningful 1st XV rugby they desired. I would like to thank those players for their efforts and wish them the very best of luck for the future.

"Ben Glynn has taken the tough decision to step away due to his burdensome travelling from Bristol three days per week for training and games. Whilst we are sad to see him leave us, he will certainly benefit from regaining all the hours he spent driving last season. I would like to thank Ben for his services both as a player and lineout coach. He was a fantastic performer on and off the pitch, and on behalf of the whole Club I would like to wish him the best of luck for the future.

"Soane Tonga’uiha has also decided to move on. He has been a huge part of everything we have done for the past two years. Not only did the squad and Club benefit from his coaching and wisdom following more than two decades playing at the highest level, we also benefited hugely from his performances on-field. At 40-years-old, he shows no sign of slowing down, and I would like to wish him the very best of luck for the future.

"Oscar Heath, Tom Ranaboldo and Seb Scott have also made the decision to step away. All three players have been with the Club for many years and, while it is sad to see them move on, we wish them all the very best and thank them for their efforts throughout their time here. They will always remain a part of our Chinnor Family and I am sure we will still see them at Kingsey Road from time to time."

Looking forward, we are excited to welcome back the players for pre-season at the beginning of July, with our friendly fixtures to be confirmed in due course.
