FORMER Chinnor youngster Scott Hall said it was an “unreal” experience to make his Leicester Tigers debut at the weekend.
The 23-year-old, who first started playing rugby at Kingsey Road when he was seven, started in the second row in Saturday’s Premiership Rugby Cup victory over Sale Sharks at Welford Road.
Hall was on loan to Leicester from Greene King IPA Championship side Nottingham for the last three weeks and enjoyed every minute of the experience.
He said: “Myself and (Nottingham teammate) Josh Poullet were asked to train with Tigers.
"They said we could potentially be involved in the Premiership Rugby Cup games and it felt unreal when they announced the team selection.
“I had a few days (before the match) for it to sink in, but I was also trying not to think hard on it. The nerves soon hit with the 15,000 fans, but as soon as the game kicked off it went away. It was phenomenal.”
Scott added: “Once you put that shirt on, they announced the teams, we observed the minute’s silence, that’s when the nerves really hit. You also start to think back to the processes, the times you have questioned yourself, all those flashbacks, and I just thought this is the moment, this is what you dreamt of.”
Hall first started playing rugby at Chinnor as an under 8, converting from football where he was a promising young goalkeeper.
Playing all the way up to our Colts, where he won player-of-the-year, Scott was handed his First XV debut on the final day of the 2015/16 season.
Hall also trained with our Senior Squad last year when rugby was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, and is now impressing back up in the Midlands.
Now studying a Masters in Entrepreneurship at Nottingham Trent University after completing his Sport Science degree, he is continuing to flourish on the rugby field.
Despite only making his Championship debut for Nottingham last year, he has now made five appearances this term for the Archers and obviously caught the eye of the Tigers coaches.
Having pulled on such a prestigious jersey at the weekend, Scott is keen to keep pushing on.
He said: “When I was at Chinnor, you would have that ambition to play as high as possible.
"When Nottingham came along I thought, I’ve probably set out to do what I wanted to and at least I’ve achieved playing in the Championship if I never play again, but now I am hungry for more.
“Moving forward, I am back with Nottingham this week and preparing for a big game against London Scottish. I still want to do a job for Nottingham and I am still very much their player.”
Hall may now be excelling at a higher level, but he has not forgotten his roots.
“Chinnor still has a special place in my heart,” he said.
“I grew up there, it’s on my doorstep – my family house is 30 seconds away from the Club – and I had an amazing time there.
“I'm passionate about the Club and I still regularly check the scores to see how the boys are getting on.
“All in all, I am just grateful for that community, I don’t think you can find a better club and one that is more supportive. The number of messages I received at the weekend was overwhelming - I am so grateful.
“I’ve got to thank Simon Vickers - he has always given me an opportunity not just in rugby, but to work. And my coaches - Mark Nicholls was our Colts coach, very influential and you would go out and play for him. Rob Hill helped me with my coaching and H (Hywel Evans) was an open door and someone to talk to. There are so many names I could mention and I thank them all.”
